The owner’s manual specifies “Castrol GPS 10W-40, API SG/JASO MA” this oil is not made/sold in the US any longer.
What would you recommend to use in the 2011 F800GS?
Is synthetic oil ok with the wet clutch?

I like the Castrol GPS oil (used it in my 800GS and now use it in my 2010 660 Tenere ) ... but if not availble... then I will look at Motul 7100 :D

As long as your oil isn't "energy conserving", which most car oils are, you will be fine. A good quality diesel oil or like I and others do, Motul 7100 10w40 works great, and is motorcycle specific, so you wil not have any issues.

    Now get out and ride!:lol3

This is another popular choice in the USA.

contrary to what you may believe while in the saddle, you did not buy a rocket engine. go buy some 10w40 motorcycle oil and be done with it. the brand and flavor does not make ANY difference in these bikes.

    Top three synths IMHO:

-Amsoil MCF 10w-40 Fully Synthetic Motorcycle Oil
-Motul 7100 Ester Fully Synthetic Motorcycle Oil
-Castrol Power 1 or Power RS 4T 10w-40 Fully Synthetic Motorcycle Oil

    Top three dinos IMHO:

    -Motul 3000 10w-40 Motorcycle Oil
    -Silkolene 4T 10w-40 Motorcycle Oil
    -Castrol 4T 10w-40 Motorcycle Oil

Care to share your scientific findings to show why these are ordered as one better than the other? Or are you making your preference based on price ascending sort? Would love to know how you are finding one to be better than the other. Not making fun here - I actually would like to know.

I was unaware you could get the castrol GPS as a Fully Synthetic as they sell it in Australia as a Semi Synthetic:huh

No scientific findings, just years of personal experience trying out different oils...seeing, hearing, feeling the results. Personal preference, as I stated in my post. Yes, ascending sort. Just personal preference.

What I meant is Power 1 4T or Power RS 4T. Both fully synth, I've used them, but not GPS as it's not readily available in MN or the States for that matter.

Yeah, manufacturers web site will probably have it all explained.

Bottom line is, you can not scientifically prove which oil is better.

Well Amsoil did, so..... you can take it or leave it....but just because YOU (the almighty all-knower about oil science) choose to leave it does not mean that Amsoil's scientific findings are null.

To claim that one cannot prove which oils are better than others via science is ridiculous. :lol3 Did you even take the time to read the damn thing?
