I had a question regarding shipping a couple bikes. My boyfriend and I are moving to Hawaii (the Big Island) at some point this year, and I'm wondering if anyone has had experience shipping motorcycles. The only info I've been able to get thus far is that they need to be "crated". What does that entail? Do I need to do anything to prep them for the voyage? Can anyone recommend a good shipping company? I'd welcome any info or experiences you might have had. Thanks!:)
I live on the Big Island. I have shipped 5 Bikes in the last few years the latest 2 years ago. I ship with Pasha out of San Diego. No crates, no prep, no problem at all. Just drop it off at the warehouse, they strap it to a big steel pallet and put it on the ship. Pick it up in Hilo at the docks. The last one was $630.00. Look em up online then call em. I'm not sure if they ship from other west coast cities. Good Luck, Renzo in Kau
I live on the Big Island as well and second the above poster. Congrats on moving here! It's a great place to live.
Are they protected on the boat? I heard some horror stories about matson shipping cars above decks and the saltwater destroying them. :eek1 Not my baby!! Particularly worried about rust.
I have used Matson as well. Everything goes in a container (Its a container ship!!!!!). If you are worried about RUST, don't ship it over here. Every thing rusts over here. No kidding.
KGM assemblers in Kent will crate and ship a bike to Hawai'i. They say you can pack other stuff in the crate. Which island are you headed to? Let us know what you find out and who you settled with (and why). I'm hoping to move to Kaua'i in the near future. doc
Are there many places to ride offroad on the big island? Found a sweet conversion to dual sport on here and it might be a blast. Buuuut wouldn't want to spend the money to find out it's all shut down like here in WA.
I know this threads old but here's an update. Pasha gets and A+++ from me. No need to look anywhere else. Picked up my bike at the pier in Honolulu yesterday. I shipped from Raleigh to Hawaii. Arranged the transit through Federal Warehouse Company. They organized the whole thing for me. One company came to my house in North Carolina and loaded my fully farkled bike onto a truck then took it to the port in San Diego. From San Diego, Pasha transported it to Hawaii. Three weeks and less than 2 grand from when the bike left my house I'm riding out of the port in Honolulu and into a new adventure in Hawai'i.
