Boone for the Weekend...Routes needed!

Hey guys just got my KLR650 this year which is my first bike and I love it! Can't beat a Dual Sport!!!

I am heading up to boone for the weekend and am looking for some good dirt routes to test it out on. Nothing to crazy tho. I am thinking of taking the BRP down to Edgemount does anyone know if that is a dirt road or not?

How is old NC 105? Think the 650 could manage that pretty easily?

Any ride route suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Looking for any good fire roads or forest service dirt roads for some weekend fun.

Thanks for the help!!!

Take Edgemont Rd down from 221. Awesome road. Leads to lots more gravel roads. Look up Maple Church/ Maple Sally Roads. They connect, but GPS's don't know it!

Oh, and the southeast regional forum would be the proper place to ask...

Anyone available this weekend?

Anyone down to take a morning ride down thorugh Maple Sally this Sunday? I have never been out there before and have no other Dual Sporting firends to meet up with ><

Weather Looks great and I am planing to ride from Boone through Blowing Rock. Would enjoy someone to show me the ways. Or does anyone know if Maple Sally is a relativley easy road for a Noob like myself? Just do not want to get in over my head out there alone.

Would be down to meet up anywhere and start the trip early on since I am a Student at NCSU and have to make the 200 mile drive back to Raleigh that same day.

I will be coming into Boone for the weekend Friday around 1 or 2. Could take the ride Friday if that is better for anyone else.

Any takers?

again, you would have a better chance getting a response to post in the regional forums where people are watching from that area.

Taken on Maple Sally:

Old NC 105

Old NC 105 is nice. Great views overlooking Linville wilderness. Better views in the winter months though, more vegetation in the summer. Should be an easy ride on that bike.

If you can make a big loop from boone to the Mt. City TN area, you can ride Shady Valley for all the nice asphalt.
Or make a loop around Watauga lake and back.

If you can't, at least make the trip to Todd NC from Boone. Lots of backroads there that go from paved to dirt and back. Old railroad grade roadbeds. Stuff like that are good ways to feel your way around.

Thanks again for the input guys even though I am in the wrong forum.

I ended up running out of blowing rock on dirt all the way to maple church grove road. Lots a hills and twisties but nothing to crazy it was great! Should have packed a bigger jacked though.

I think I will take the trip to Todd next time I get up there old railroad trails sounds great! So many places to ride up there it is a shame I live in raleigh.

Looking forward to my next trip up there!!
