I just got this bike as a "free if you haul it away"-type deal. Not sure who got the better end of the bargain. The soon-to-be-previous owner informed me that it was in the backyard, and would need to be carried down some stairs. He advised me to plan on bringing help. Not knowing anyone to help on such short notice, I called the first moving guy I found on Craigslist. He agreed to meet me there. About 3 minutes before I arrived, the moving guy texted me: "hey i'm here drunk man." I was already a little sketched out, because, you know, Craigslist. This sent me into a panic. What kind of lunatic had I hired, and why would he text me regarding his sobriety? As soon as I arrived he told me that he was definitely not drunk, but had dictated the message to Siri. He wasn't sure why she had the inserted the "drunk" part. He was, he informed me, actually an ex-trials rider. I will modify that by saying a badass ex-trials rider. Rather than us carrying the bike down the stairs, he rode it. Anyway, I think this bike will be the ideal candidate for my planned cafe dirtbike as built by Orange County Choppers build. If anyone has any other ideas, speak up. Also if anyone has info on whether Paul Jr or Paul Sr is the better builder these days, let me know. I understand they had a falling out a few seasons back and I'd like to make sure I have the better guy working on my bike. The good news is I think it's probably sound mechanically. The oil that came out of the heads when I leaned it on its side was pretty clean.
Well there you go! I believe this is how all the pros check for proper tuning. You should be able to fill up the tank and make it your daily rider. Oh, and maybe throw on some rocker covers. You know, just for cosmetic reasons.
Yes, I got the tip from Snowbum's website. At least I think I did. I can't go to his site too often because of my epilepsy. I'm not really into the whole rocker cover look. This is my other bike, as it was when I bought it. As you can see, I'm more of a ridiculous seat guy.
This is my new favorite thread. Oh, I almost forgot... To the original poster: So, you're into Mr. Belvedere, huh?
One of those OCC hacks is going to be working on this bike? I highly doubt either one of them would touch this machine. I watch that show when I want to feel better about my mechanical skills. I once saw Paulie using a step drill on a fender, drill right through the fender into the 500$ tire. Poor BMW is right. That thing will have some goofy spinning BMW logo and a 17" rake in no time.
It looks like I won't be working with Orange County Choppers after all. I got in touch with them. They totally saw my vision, and wanted to work on it in an upcoming episode where General Mills commissions an OCC bike for their corporate offices. They would work mine up in a Fruit Roll-up theme. I wasn't too jazzed about that and asked if we could go with Chex or something. They weren't on-board, and advised I get an agent for my bike. I told them I need to get a headlight first, so chalk it up to artistic differences. Still, much respect. They were total pros.
yeah right.. First, I didn't believe you're shipping a backyard find from NoCal to NJ to have it worked over. Second, those guys are the last ones that would cafe a bike. Third, you're seriously going to give someone a heart-attack with this thread if you keep up the OCC gag. BTW, what did the PO say about the missing rocker/valve covers?
You know that moment you stare fixated at the impending trainwreck? You can see the enevitability, know that no good will come out of it, and yet can't divert your eyes? I'm there. Right now.
If someone starts posting pics of hot chics, I think this thread could challenge "Girls on Old Bikes".
I just gave this thread 5 stars!:huh. Not sure why, has something to do with what beater said and frankly, I'm bored.
Who said anything about shipping? I'm riding it there. Alright, alright. I've told some half-truths so far. Let's go through the claims fact-by-fact, Snopes.com style: TRUE: The bike was advertised free on Craigslist. Ask NorCal inmates who keep an eagle-eye watch there. I ended up picking it up. TRUE: Nuff said. TRUE: He was an ex-trials rider, and he was a badass. He also drove a sweet flat black Camaro SS. And he totally rode the bike down the stairs (with me and his buddy in front keeping it from tipping). If any SF inmates need a moving/hauling guy recommendation, this dude was for real. FALSE: But isn't the saddest part that it's totally believable they would build a Fruit Roll-up-themed bike for General Mills corporate offices? My apologies to anyone who took the OCC stuff seriously. I have no interest in having them work on my bike. It was a joke. As you can see by my post count, I'm relatively new here, and I didn't know that ADVrider was serious business™.
