I saw a toolbox for the oil heads but does not fit in the wet heads. Where can I get the wet head version?

Aluminum boxes for the GSA LC should be out in a few weeks. The prototype is done and fabrication starts next week. www.advgear.net
I bought the one sold by Wunderlich. I like that you can access it while the side case is still on the bike.
Yes, or risk contact with the mud guard if you are close to bottoming out. I have had it on the bike while on the road only, with the mud guard in place. So far, with a passenger and hard cases, contact with the mud guard has not happened. If I knew I was going off road, I would probably take off the mud guard.
I just rode the White Rim Trail with mud guard still on and did not have any issues with the toolbox hitting...works great. Although I will say I'm still trying to figure out what to put in the toolbox. It's kind of narrow - too narrow for my tool roll. I'll have to look around here for ideas from the oil cooled versions.
I got mine... I removed the goofy mud guard right after I bought the bike. Removal is a non issue for me.. Smitty
Don't want to hijack the thread, but... The GSA did great...no issues at all. We had an incredible day, but it was funny talking to some guys on KTM dirt bikes who couldn't believe we rode our bikes out there (other bike was a Yamaha ST). Did the trail with Karoo 3 tires, which at 25 psi gave a lot of grip. Ok, back to the main thread...Smitty - what do you have in your toolbox and how is it organized?
Ok, so what I'm not getting is if the two leading designs both have fit issues with the mud guard in place, why not make the box just a bit shorter so that their is no interference.
I have my air compressor, tire plug kit, Jumper cables, and a few big cable ties. And a little room for a few pair of disposable gloves (keep hands clean when doing a repair) and some JB Weld. Smitty
Adventure Dave of advgear.net is about to release a new tool box for the GSW and 2014 GSAW bikes. It is a new design with some new refinements in fit and finish. All in all a very nice box with good capacity and extensive on/off road testing. You may want to check out his site and compare to other products. I have several of his products. The quality and design is excellent. It's always nice to deal with a fellow inmate that supports his products.
I like that too...hopefully the new USA made will have similar functionality otherwise a Wunderlich will be
You may want to move the box as far to the left as possible, so as not to hit the rear brake bleeding nipple should you bottom out.
In working up the design for the new toolbox, I removed the rear shock, then moved the swing arm up 9" (spec'd travel is 8.7") You can see that the mud guard moves up a long way. The toolbox I'm building is basically same height as the pannier frame; no way the toolbox and mud guard arm will co-exist if the suspension is compressed to full range. The box also has a cutout on the back for clearance to the brake components. Should have them done in a couple of weeks.
