Was looking for rider feedback on the 660R and got bugger all. How can there NOT be a dedicated Aussie thread for any of the Yamaha XT660's?

Anyway, decided quite some time ago the XT660R was the adventure bike for me, but got distracted along the way and bought a Yamaha DT230 (2 stroke) which I turned into an adventure bike...it actually worked very well for that purpose. That use has now changed and I have turned the DT230 into a motard for work use and when the need arises, will put the trail wheels back on for the tighter trail type rides.

Have found a few XT660R's which I'm keen on and have plans already to remove the underslung pipes and install a single system, like this one...sexy!

When you look at the comparison chart of the R / X AND Z, the R with the underslung pipes removed is better than the Z, certainly has a lot less plastic crap to break and is nearly half the price. You just need to get a bigger tank from Gilimoto or Off the Road.

    Here's mine.

All finished except for the suspenders!

You don't necessarily need a Gillimoto. A rotopax or 2 will give you 400km range without ruining the look of your bike...

Hey Wizz, that ride sounds bigger than epic, your bike sure has some furkin farkles. That's probably one of the best set up Z's I've seen. Can't wait to see the pics and report.
Hey Boner, your R is the horn. Have you got a vid of yours with sound so I can spank over the note of the Akro?

    Robo,

That bike of Wizza's is a beauty. Shame about the owner, he's a karnt.... :lol3:lol3

He's got it set up really nicely, but if you look closely there is a scratch on the tank that ruins the whole thing....

On Sunday I should be riding at Mt Mee, you should come along. If you need a "spank soundtrack" you are welcome to hide off the side of the track and abuse yourself in the bushes while I ride past (if that helps...) :eek1

If only I had the DT back in one piece, I'd come along, but you'd know where I was hiding as you'd be able to smell the 2 smoke from a mile away.

The last ride I did with the kicker brothers I ran sweep but the big fella kept offering for me to have a run up the front. Found out later on all he wanted to do was sniff my stink pipe. :lol3:lol3

    Yeah Robo,

OTR have a long list of farkles for the XTR. I seem to have bought most of them :huh

These are a popular bike in Europe, probably well suited to conditions over there. OTR gear is good buying too, now that the $A is worth 85ish euro cents.

The stupid thing is gear like pivot pegz. Made in Oz, but cheaper to buy from Germany & have shipped back. WTF?

There are usually plenty of XTRs on bikepoint & ebay, some as cheap as 6 grand. Spend $3K with OTR & you've got a decent light ADV bike for not much money. 90% a Tenere for 60% of the price...

Looking forward to seeing yours with the Rally Raid kit. :clap

I was in possession of one of these when they first came out, which is when I got my first taste of that sweet 660 donk? These also are insanely good fun.

Got my 08 with 5800klm and 8 months rego for $5800 with yamaha bashplate (in name only) rack and high screen . Have added topbox and intiminators. Would like to add pipe ect but will have to wait. Might do the Kev mod if the surging starts to get annoying.

Hey plod, have you photo shopped that photo, cause it looks freakin awesome? And for that price, that's an absolute steal, good choice and well done. Can't wait to see some more photos of your ride.

Yes the price was pretty good. The photo wasn't photoshoped (I'm not that smart) but the xt does seem pretty photogenic, at least from the back and side. Enjoying the bike as it suits my riding and the roads in this part of the country. Bigger tank for more range would be nice would be nice, but she's pretty economical so range isn't too bad anyway.[IMG]
