Been wondering why I never seem to see any outfits equipped with a whip.

Not this kind of whip -- :whip

    Something more like this--

Seems like a 5-foot whip with a little orange flag would help with conspicuity both on the open road as well as on forest roads.

Is there a reason we don't use whips? Educate me.

Well, at higher speeds don't you risk getting whacked in the ass by it?

Required at many off road parks.

This type of flag is required at "Silver Lake Sand Dune" . It's use is for coming up on others coming over a hill . On trucks etc they are on the front of the rig . On bikes , 4 and 3 wheelers they are on the back .

I'm guessing there are not near as may hacks as off road ATVs(in N WI you see dozens of ATVs in recreation areas and groups of 10 + riding together), we have lots of flag carrying motorcycles but they're riders tend to be nationalist and seemingly have something to prove(they're always talking about lifestyle).

But the whip and flag would be a great idea, if moving fast in allot of whoops ! But do 60ish men with $20k toys behave that way ?

    Hey Drone!!

You could become a trendsetter, an innovator, and a world leader in the hack community by making, displaying, and selling whips and flags w/ your likeness on them.

You could even become rich!! :thumb

Or, on the other hand, none of the above. :dunno

    There ya go! :thumb

If a whip is not beneath the dignity of an esteemed high-end builder like HogWild, then surely I could mount one up and still hold my head high! :jump

Not exactly. I only used in because it's required by BLM in that designated off-road riding area (Dumont Dunes), which is just outside Death Valley. I eventually learned that if I go there in the middle of summer, when it's 115 degrees, there are no BLM rangers to notice I don't have the flag. I also learned there isn't a single other human dumb enough to go there in the summer, and I had the WHOLE place to myself. So, I'd rather endure severe heat stroke and dehydration than carry that flag!

Imagine my surprise to find this thread had nothing to do with NBA players customized rides, oversize chrome wheels and 10k watt stereos............:lol3

Please don't encourage drone with the 'whip' idea. I'm joining him on the CDT this july and I don't want him having access to a whip when he becomes tired of me.:lol3

Honestly, my thought is that the extra tail lights and a massive sidecar do enough to make me visible. :dunno

I've run flags before, large and small, and they tend not to behave well at highway speeds. 75mph winds will destroy a flag of any sort fairly quickly, and they make quite a racket.

Thanks for reminding me, when we don't have a flag on a whip, we at least show our pride with a sticker on the bike, or we wear it.
