I assumed a 17" wheel for my estimate.

Yeah, it is a custom Woodys 19" Excel wheel.

Also, I did the math on the aspect ratio of the 110/80-19 vs. the 90/90-21 and the sidewalls are 1/4"taller, top and bottom so the overall difference in diameter is only 1 1/2" instead of 2".

That's cool. I'm on my third KLR, and I went back for the same reasons. There's just something about a cheap bike you just get on and go.

Your 1150 is just like my first BMW.

I got a ride through Canada to Buffalo, New York after work and rode it home the same night to Detroit.

It was a 2002 Adventure just like yours, same color too.

Yep. They did. I have the bike all finished in my head. Ha ha. Its sitting next to my versys, Vulcan 800 bagger and crf 230 dual sport.

I hear ya,and you can always get another KLR later if you care too.

Enjoy your BMW,I have had 5 of them and am glad I got to experience that.

I received the Omni Cruise I ordered from an inmate in the venders forum and put it on the KLR.

It is very impressive and looks like it is going to work well.

Quite similar to the Go Cruise, but appears to be better and only double the cost.
Not bad. I like the fact it is adjustable.
Looks more durable than the Go Cruise.
I might have to get me one for my F800.

This once again affirms what I have been saying #bout the klr ever since I owned my last one. There are better bikes for certain things, but no better bike for everything. You can run a trail, to work, across the country or the world. With one or two riders. Swiss army bike. I love my versys on the street and slab, its good off road, but not as good as the klr off road. But the klr can run all the same roads I can on the versys. Would I sell my versys? Not on your life. The wife and I can destroy miles in short order on it and be very very comfy. Will I buy another klr, you can bet on it. Searching now...

They are a great combo and I love them both but you're right. One of them is a much cheaper date.

Shortly after I received the bike I changed the oil and found a small piece of wire gauge steel stuck to the magnetic drain plug.

It was .062" diameter, that Eagle Mike confirmed was the same as the Torsion spring for the Doohickey, and he promptly sent me another one free of charge even though the prior owner installed it in 2008 and very well may have damaged it during installation.



So I finally got around to opening it up and sure enough the end of the Torsion spring is broke off as you can see in the picture.

i know this is off topic but... i'm looking to get an exhaust system for my 2012 klr and i've been looking at either the fmf bomb or a yoshimura pipe, just a slip on, does anyone have reccomendations?

Buy the Leo Vince muffler.

It comes with a USFS spark arrestor and multiple baffle tubes so you can make it quiet or louder.

When my bike rolls out of the garage in the spring it will have one.

Here is a pic of the hole that was drilled for the spring.The hole looks to be at about 8:00 oclock.

But 7:30 was the recommended location in 2008, and now with the latest springs it is recommended to be at just a bit past 6:00 o clock.



I talked to Eagle Mike about it and he said it could have broke from being over tensioned or damage from installation if the wrong tools were used.

So, I am going to drill a new hole at just past 6 o clock.

Your first post in this thread really says a lot. Values to be admired. Nice to see so much positivity here ... as opposed to that god awful KLR HP thread. Some real KLR haters showed up there ... true Trolls. Worst of ADV Rider. Your thread is the opposite!

I'm a DR650 rider but have owned two KLR's in the past (an '85 KLR600 and '98). I recently spent a couple hours on a buddies very well set up '09 KLR. It was a nice surprise. I like my DR650 (well modified) but I could easily be seduced by the much better looking KLR. (I prefer the NEW style).

Lots of temptation out there regards new bikes ... but I too must reduce debt and expenses. Any extra money ... and free time ... has to go into actually doing the riding, which to me ... is what it's all about. RIDE RIDE RIDE!! All the best with your new bike ! it's a beauty!
