I'm looking at that FP1 and a few things come to mind. Ben Spies, not there, what a sad end to a terrible season. And, he is off to a "second string" (?) Ducati next year. I don't see him climbing back upwards, like he did for so many years, he really has had a stellar career - until MotoGP. Nicky Hayden, the guy is a warrior, he just keeps going and going, and trying and trying. I think my admiration for him increases every season.

I'm looking forward to a straight up battle now, with Lorenzo no longer in "lead management" mode.
Will he actually risk an unheard of getoff to beat Pedrosa and carry the momentum into 2013?

And Rossi, 2.2 off of his teammate! That will undoubtedly change, but still!

I don't think you're gonna see much of a "no holds barred cause the pressure's off" type of race the moto-sites keep trying to convince us of. Nobody needs to get hurt proving...nothing. The start of next season begins Tuesday and I'm sure being healthy for that test is much more important than any so-called "bragging rights".

I predict a boring, processional "race" with the same three at the front.

The only person with nothing to lose is Stoner. The rest will let him go, let him be a hero this very last time if he wants.

Christ...wake me when there's racing in this class again.

Marquez fastest, but yet another practice collision sends a rider in the gravel trap (Corsi this time).

The guy's probably the greatest talent in a decade, but this is something he needs to get rid of.

edit. MM has received a penalty for this incident, and will start from the back of the grid. Could be an interesting race...

FP 2 was mixed and drying conditions, not really wet. It was dry enough for Moto 2 that first Espargaro and later Marquez dipped under the lap record.

I think it is good that Marquez received the penalty he did, and would call it a fair penalty. He has been involved in too many 'questionable' incidents. This one was clearly his fault (IMHO).

I felt the incident at Motegi was borderline enough to let go with a warning.

He's an extraordinarily fast, extraordinarily talented, extraordinarily wealthy twat with an extraordinarily bright future. I am sure Marquez spent zero time being offended.

No doubt that move by Marquez was inappropriate and the penalty is right. While he has to cool it a bit, I hope he won't be made to lose all that spirit.

Tuesday...Taking bets on whether he will be faster than on the Duc on the first day or the second day? I say if conditions are equal by the end of day one he will be faster than his weekend times.
