My own fault for not getting out enough. it is the original battery so I am thinking it is best to get a new one. anyone got a replacement brand recommendation and the best place to buy? I am in brisbane should I just got my local suzi dealer ? there is a deklevic one on ebay for $75? never had to buy one before so don't know whats best. advice is appreciated cheers stuart
i got one from springwood suzuki about 6 months ago for my drz400 and from memory it was only about $60 i must admit i was surprised they didn't want more
I bought one for my DRZ for about $60 too. Make sure you do this before you lash out on a new battery: http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-627031.html
might have to do some calling around.. that tt check system is pretty comprehensive - but need fresh battery anyway to be able to do it, and will have to call on a mate with voltmeter and skills that I lack.. anyone know if one brand is better the the other?
I bought a SSB (Super Start Battery) for my DR650 from my local guys. $59.00. Half the price of the Yuasa, and its been great for the last 6 months Ive had it in. And to add to that, my bike may get ridden once a week but can not be started for up to 3 weeks. Bloody thing cranks like new every time.
While your in getting the new battery purchase a trickle charger. I plug my bike in to the charger as soon as I get home and I know it is good to go when ever I go out. Mine hasn't done much in the last year or so - the last time I started even the bike was December I still have the original in the 640 (4 years old) but I have had 6 years without replacement on other bikes, even then I sold the bike with the battery still fitted and working fine. On the 640, I plug the charger in via the accessory socket on the dash - if your bike doesn't have one it is very simple to do.
another option. highly recommended turntechbattery.com or roll your own: http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4852
I use a Battery Fighter to keep the battery in good nick. Can get them from lots of places , check your local battery supply store. Heres some info ... http://www.master-instruments.com.au/page/battery_fighter_faq.html
I must be really sick..... I give my bike a loving caress everyday, even though I can't ride it for a bit.
CTEK Battery chargers. Not cheap but they do trickle and full charging and you just leave hooked up to the bike with quick connect plug. Best battery charger I have had in years. http://www.ctek.com/EN-AU/Default.aspx Availbale through Repco
thanks all so yuasa might be a bit pricey and the ssb looks good value.. gathering whatever I get - get a descent charger and leave it trickle..battery fighter or ctek.. good stuff lads - looking forward to powering my little yellow tractor up again and getting out there. cheers
If you are going to get a battery charger, it is worth going to your local Jaycar shop. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MB3604&CATID=18&form=CAT&SUBCATID=295 I got four of these last year (when they had a special) for about $45 each. Sold one to a Ducati owner at work for $60 (still way cheaper than retail) These are identical in every way except for the sticker on the outside to the C-Tek ones that you will pay $120 to $140 at a motorcycle shop. The beauty about these is that they will repair (de-calcify) a battery that is on it's way out if it is holding more than 7.2 volts. (something which I have tested and proven to work) There is also a smaller and cheaper one as well. Plus, if you have an ABN, you can sign up with them and receive a further 10% discount on all your purchases.
Have you tried K Mart for a gel replacement battery? That's where I got mine from. Cheers Happy Snapper
