Why do you prefer KTM 1190 over new R 1200 GS?

to me there are several reasons:

With the R you can do some serious off road ( and is fantastic on road as well)
    The frame is better
    The suspensions are superior
The motor is uncomparable, the GS might be better berween 1000 and 2000 rev, but for the rest forget it
    Ktm is lighter
The way the traction control activates is way better on ktm
The look is better, to me the GS looks like mazinga Z
I don't like the rigidity of the shaft drive and I broke 2 in the past, no more!

    Do you think it's enough??:rofl

    For me?

The 1190 has a real driveline (no shaft drive to fail)
The 1190 has a real swingarm (one that won't snap in two at the least opportune moment)
The 1190 doesn't have cylinder heads sticking out to be whacked on stuff if you go down
The 1190 is actually capable off-road
The 1190 is far less likely to have electrical problems
The 1190 is meant for real riders who will go off-road, not posers who probably won't :)

Acceleration is fun, wheelies are fun
Lighter = more fun + safer
Fuel economy seems to be on point
Looks great (R model particularly so)

The guys in GSpot are asking questions like "can I pair my iPhone to the GPS receiver using bluetooth"...

And this, believe it or not, is the toolkit of the new LC R1200GS:

absolutelly no! I was reading an other italian forum about this guy that tryed both bikes and wrote what he said about the motor (a bmw forum)
actually today I drove in enduro mode for a while and I have to say it's even more flexible, the best mode to drive in heavy traffic.

don't forget 1000 rev. it's f...ing low! you start driving the 990 above 3000 rev....

I personally think that KTM built this bike to compete with the 1200gsa. I'll never own a 1190 because I don't think it can do what the 990 can. I'm sure the 1190 will be awesome and I'm excited to see how the EFI is, but I would never take an 1190 to the places I've taken my 990.

I'm coming from a 2010 990 adv and I can tell you tha you are wrong, this bike (the R) off road is great and with much easier to handle from a throttle point of view because it's softer and flexible in the low rev. It's an important caratteristic for the off road (to me).
The only limit, only in the extreme off road, if we compare it with the 990 adv R is the ground clearance.

BMW's are great if its a huge road bike disguised as an SUV is what you're after...with shoddy suspension, built in kickstands/rut skis/ rock magnets, silly fixed final drive ratio through a proven unreliable final drive gear, a tranny that feels like a box of marbles made with straight cut gears that beg to disengage, that wonderful dry clutch that requires whole bike disassembly to get at along with its cleverly designed hydraulic slave engineered so that when it leaks, it'll pour oil directly on the disk. Then there's its myriad of computers. There's the one that keeps thieves and yourself from operating the thing when its antenna ring burns out, the one that reengages the abs when the battery is low if you turn it off on start...this lovely feature almost killed me once. But at least servo abs and its complex ability to rob you of the ability to brake when the battery is dead, or the banjo bolt plugged, or the ball valve corroded, etc...is gone along with untold numbers of foolish riders who had trusted it...I was almost one of them once too.

For everyone else, there's the KTM.:freaky
