I love the Bul thread. Were are all the Maico's? I don't see that many here. I would love to see more. I use to love them back in the early/mid seventies. Just for their looks if nothing else. Plus the midwest had some experts that could fly on them back then. Not to mention some national and world level pro's!

i would have a pic, but i just rebuilt the motor and set it in the frame today - 1977 aw400. - it's in average shape - not doing a restore, just doing motor/suspension, etc. then deciding what to do with it.. - i also have a project 1980 250 i might be getting rid of....

I have a 72 MC250 patiently waiting restoration but it's a bit too buried to take a pic of.

I still have hope. I would love to get my hands on a '76 250MX. I think it was a 250MX. Not yet red. Banana swingarm. Crude and rude!

I don't remember how much they typically weighed. I hope they were light since above all else I hate heavy bikes. But please! Don't bring up 'claimed' weights! Let's stick with reality.

I have 2 Maico's on file. The first one is Tony D's last race bike and the actual bike he started his schools with. It's considered to be one of the greatest MX bikes, the '81 490.

The second one is an earlier aluminum tank model. Sorry there's not more of the bike, it's all I had:wink:

I hope I warned everybody that I don't know much about them having never been around them much. Maybe that explains my love for them? :D I do love the looks of them. Especially the pre-red ones. Plus, like I said earlier, I have seen some guys kick ass on them!

I had an extensively modified Magnum 400 back in the day. Unfortunately I have no photos of that bike but I do have this photo of a friend taken on Long Island in 1979. Gene Rupp is his name.

Here's mine. It's a 1971-ish MC250 Square Barrel. Still a work in progress but I got the motor in pretty good shape last year. This year I need to work on the chassis. Wheels are getting rebuilt with new spokes, a set of nice vintage Akronts, and a new front hub to replace the broken and welded one on the bike.
