SC State Ride to Lunch Thread

I had a wonderful time today! The BBQ lunch was very good :) But the riding was even better! It was a great first ride. I think I did around 100 miles round trip. I even got to test the DRZ out right with some baby log crossings and water. Thanks to Laura for being our guide today! Little bit rainy but turned out great! It was nice to meet everyone today. I can't wait to do it again!

It was great meeting some new people today and catching up with others. I had a blast on the soggy ride after lunch. It's such a pleasure riding with others whose love of the sport just shines through, even on a day like today. Listening to redfishguide's 950 ADV this afternoon helped make up for missing out on one of my favorite things about air shows/fly-ins - the sound made by P-51's and other aircraft from that era.

Well, Rats! Thank goodness Laura called Justin who called me at home. I was sitting in front of my computer moping about the weather and having to cancel the Race to Ridgeland. I've been VERY busy at work and am juggling so much in the air right now, that when we emailed everyone Friday afternoon to cancel the fly-in, I just plain forgot about the State-wide lunch part of the event. Rushed over and got to meet some new people and some new bikes. Motogirl is right about the BBQ---it's always good at that little place.

We've rescheduled the Race to Ridgeland for 5 October, so if you guys feel comfortable trusting me THAT far in advance, you're all invited to do it again. Same format and same flying demonstrations, lunch available, and you can all hang out at my hangar and watch the show. Might even scare up a ride or two. Laura: You're "on" for the Rocket.

P.S. I'll get that 690 on the road one of these days soon too, I promise. Can't believe how long KTM parts take to come in. Amazing.

Great meeting everyone. I didn't even mind the rain and mud. Reminded me of the nine month northwest winter, only warmer.

Although my bike decided to lay down and take a nap (on its own of course), I enjoyed the ride and meeting the other riders.

Somehow it seemed ok to dismount on a dirt road at 50-55 mph and 10 minutes later be scooting along at 70-75 mph on a two lane blacktop. Although the go grip kept sticking just to keep things interesting while shifting gears.

Good thing I wasn't tailgating - that stuff was pretty slick. I'm sure Chuck is glad this happened where it did and not a mile or so later when we were back on pavement! It was an impressive twirling slide.

Dang Chuck I thought you got away with one Pesky cameras.

Oh well, maybe it did happen after all. That probably explains the huge black and blue area on my lower left cheek, the pulled groin and the pain in my neck under my chin.

But all is good no broken bones and I have plenty of pain medication on hand (beer, apple jack and little pills).

The bike is fine, just a few more road scars that add to the tough appearance of the Wee Strom Jeep.

Great way to make your first and second post. Good to see you are ip and around.
Did you unload the chain on a bump or am I not paying attention. To the entire story.
Also any time you ride wit these nuts make sure you armor up, things can get nasty/muddy.

No, the chain was loose and real dirty before we started the ride. Jack pointed it out to me at the BBQ Joint just before we headed to the swamp roads. But I decided to fix it later (which we did, right after I crashed).

Your a bit far from home. South Carolina, Georgia and Florida are all similar to the NJ pine barrens. One main difference 99 % or maybe more is private and dirt bikes are not welcome. You have a lot more open land then we do.

Btw I still remember our last ride in the Pines. Seems my three broken ribs won't let me forget it. Ouch!!!!

Poor guy.

Anyone in southern SC doing any dual sporting tomorrow? The other half just got his first dual sport today and is itching to ride :).
