so i've got the bike shoehorned in the garage for the winter. up on the sidestand and the jeep parked in front of it in the garage. i have a 2x4 on the ground to tell me where to stop, but i guess after bumping into it day after day it had moved a little, and the other day i came home and actually tapped the bike. not hard cause i'm going slow anyways, but it wiggled a little on the side stand. now i know front to back it can take a little abuse, but side loads? i checked it thoroughly and didn't see any cracking of the frame paint or visible damage. i'm assuming it's fine as i just gave it a little love tap, but now i'm paranoid, ha.

pics for setup reference, you can see the bike there in front of the jeep, and the 2x4 on the floor, lol

looks to me like you could BACK UP that 2 x 4 by about 6" and JEEP would still clear the door?:clap

But then again you actually might have to STOP when you feel the 2 x 4!:huh

BTW...you can also put a MARK on the WALL and not go beyond?
Works with my Jeep Grand Cherokee and GS and RT in front of.

wide angle lens. it's about as far back as it'll go and let the garage close.

Hang a tennis ball from a piece of string from the ceiling, so that it touches the windshield where you want to stop.

To answer the OP's question, quite a lot I think. With my GSA fully loaded and on the side stand, I sometimes mount by putting my left foot on the left peg and swinging the right leg over. The side stand is taking all of that load, and no problems with 115k miles on the clock. I wouldn't sweat the love tap from your Jeep.

BTW, +1 on TorontoBrit's idea about the tennis ball. I have one dangling from the ceiling that gets lined up with the PA state inspection sticker on my car's windshield. When they touch, I stop and it even works (OK, kind of :D ) for my wife when she drives the car.

I weigh 300lbs and I mount my bike every time like a horse. I can't get on otherwise because my legs are short :)
Sidestand is holding up just fine.

Yea, that bike is on the center stand, not the side stand. If you didn't bend it you didn't hurt it.

Being very short, and kind of wide, I do the same all the time. It makes mounting easier. Never an issue with the side stand.

so it looks like you don't have room for the lean if it was, will it fit between the cars in the garage if backed in

whoopss.. sorry guys, i meant center-stand.

the bike was up on the center stand when i bumped it. it kinda wobbled, but that was that. checked around the mounting points and everything LOOKED good, just wanted to make sure it was.

    thanks for catching that.

The centerstand is tough, and I have never seen a broken case from one. However, make sure your bolts didn't shear off. That is fairly common.
