Just this past sat I was bitching my 525 didnt have anything to grab hold of as we hauled it back onto the trail.
Anybody with a 525 or 450 of the RFS variety (basically, pre-2008), let me know. We had a large donation of parts that all came off this style of bike. I've got about a dozen full carbs (brand new), plastic, subframes, handguard mounts, Hinson clutch cover baskets, etc. It was all donated with the intent of selling it for funds for Josh. I just haven't had time since receiving it a few weeks ago, to get everything posted. Frog....thanks for the Tugger purchase. It's truly a win-win. (Also...fyi, we sold the KLR and picked up a used Gas Gas 280 for some cross training so would love to get out for some trials riding sometime).

When we last left off, we had just finished up Joshs fundraiser. It was an incredible amount of work but worth it in many ways. Many people were very generous, but even more important and exciting was seeing how many people enjoyed the day and just came out to support Josh in whatever way they could. Immediately after the fundraiser, we had a previously scheduled four day backpacking trip in the Wind Rivers mountain range of Wyoming. This doesnt really have anything to do with riding, but in a way it does. This whole ISDE planning and preparation has pretty much taken over our lives. Josh and I were both really looking forward to 4 days in some of the most beautiful country in the world doing something non-moto related. I had the opportunity to spend the time with all 3 of my sons and several of their friends. It was priceless. This entire experience has been a family experience and it was nice to spend time with my other boys. We didnt talk much ISDE, but it was a great workout for Josh, lugging a 40-50 pound pack around in the wilderness for four days. Immediately after we got back last weekend, we were in for a marathon of final bike prep. Our deadline for getting the bike shipped and in a crate to Ohio to the AMA was last Friday. We spent many late nights in the garage doing final prep. It looked like a hurricane had hit our garage. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> But when it was all said and done, it was a huge relief. Josh with the final product before cramming it in the crate. Many wonderful sponsors have helped us. Local Hero MX printed all of our T-shirts, designed custom graphics, and has been a huge support. ADS Motorsports has bent over backwards to help us with parts, the fundraiser, and setting up Joshs bike. ENVE Composites (makers of carbon fiber bike wheels and bike components, and also Joshs employer) has been a huge help as well. There are many other sponsors and supporters and I apologize that I cant list them all here, but any of them reading this know who they are. Thank you. The next step was to meet up with our good friend Derek Nelson. Derek is a custom wood worker and also owner of CCS Racing and specializes in setup and distribution of COBRA mini motorcycles. Weve been friends for many years, and he was a huge help in building a very nice crate for us. It was definitely nicer than anything I would have been able to build. We did a dry run in his shop, and concluded the bike would fit and it would all work out for us. We then brought it home and spent the entire evening last Thursday packing it for the big ride. It first goes to the AMA in Ohio, where they then put it in the U.S. Container with all of the riders bikes/crates and then on to Germany. I told you that this entire experience has been a family affair. Here, Mom and little sister get it on the action by painting Joshs name on the crate. All this and more has to fit in the crate. It all fit. Josh commented at this moment that it was very surreal that we were actually doing this. It seemed like a dream. Last Friday, Josh took the crate to work at Enve Composites ready for it to be picked up and on its way for good. And away she goes .. This was a huge relief and milestone. Josh is now focused solely on training, remaining safe, and doing all he can to prepare for his first ISDE. Thank you to everyone who has shown such great support thus far through this experience.
Guys you have it all worked out. A fantastic preparation, great decisions along the way. Putting as much in your favour as possible. You make it all look so easy! Lovely set of photos. Josh enjoy the remainder of your preparations. Stay fit, lots of hours on a bike...any bike. Years ago I was told that the Czech Trophy Team on their Jawas were Postmen! Spent all day and every day riding through the woods delivering letters! :eek1 I wonder if it was true? Looking at your videos you have a good eye for the nice lines. Picking the smooth bits and let the others wear themselves out.
Josh.. Learn ALL you can from Jeff Fredette.. pace yourself and make the finish! The final tests will be awesome being at such a legendary location.. take lots of pictures and ,,, GOOD LUCK !

Wiser words were never spoken. Josh and I met Jeff Fredette for the first time at the Mexico ISDE when he was after his 30th. Out of ALL the riders there, I was the most impressed with him. He was always calm, cool, and collected. There is a method to his madness and a reason he has finished 31 ISDE's. At the end of the week, when packing up the U.S. container, he was the first one there to do a lot of the "heavy lifting". Amazing example of a person and a rider. Thank you. Today is Josh's 17th birthday. He loaded up the dirt bike and the trials bike and is headed for the hills for several hours of riding. I'll be sure he sees everyone's encouragement and advice (he has enjoyed the support so far). Absolutely!! Just be sure to provide me with your mailing address info so we can get you a shirt. OK, I finally got around to posting all the KTM RFS stuff I have for sale. Rather than clutter up this thread, I've created a thread in the Vendors forum that has pictures and prices of all the stuff. I would encourage you to take a look at it to see if there is something of interest. I've mentioned it before, but one of the unique things that has been brought to light through this entire ISDE prep and experience thus far, has been the "Pay it Forward" concept. People that I would never have expected, have been very generous in either their time, support, well-wishes, or financial support. So many are people who are just interested in Josh's story, or love the idea of participating vicariously in some small way in the ISDE. To all of you, thank you. Josh has been overwhelmed at times seeing what people have done and how supportive they are. Today we received a package in the mail, completely unsolicited. It was from the Larry Hamilton family in Montana. They had awarded Josh the "Gerrit Hamilton ISDE Memorial Award" in addition to a gift to help him in his journey to Germany. Talk about making an impression on a kid that just turned 17 last week. The Hamilton's host the Ought Six Enduro in Montana every April. They do this to support the sport, and raise funds and awareness for their support fund for aspiring young ISDE racers. Their son Gerrit was an aspiring ISDE racer who had his dreams cut short back in 2000 from a tragic auto/bicycle accident. Their other son William Hamilton has participated several times and they are truly an "ISDE family". http://teammontanaisde.com/ After several friends kept telling us how awesome this event was, we made the drive this past April to Cascade Montana where Josh competed. I also had the chance to ride with my youngest son Benji. Josh in the Endurocross section at the Ought Six Enduro in April 2012. On the start line with friend Greg Gillian, and Reid Brown (Greg is a mutli-time ISDE medalist, and Reid made the team this year as well qualifying out of Idaho City). It was truly one of those absolutely awesome and memorable road-trip race weekends that are difficult to put a price tag on. We met the Hamiltons there, as well as in Idaho City. Incredible people who love their family, love the sport, and truly "Pay it Forward". Thank you!!!
