i don't know anything about jacking a motor while moving it forward, but marcus does (pic on page 2). we were yakking about his bike at the okemo event (nice build btw) and he mentioned swapping out the driveshaft from a different model for a specific reason that i forget now.

i'll be seeing him and the gang saturday, more racing.

Marcus likes to use a later model swing arm. It's bigger. USCRA doesn't allow swing arm bracing. A later swing arm provides more robustness without using a brace.

I bought most of my bike from Marcus. He has many suggestions. Some of them good ones. :D He does prefer the RaceLine kit. He will be at Okemo this weekend, as will I.

Our engines are stressed members just like K engines or Ducati engines. I would weld my raised engine mounts and stress the engine properly. You move the engine forward by making an aluminum spacer between the drive shaft and the tranny. Why? To move the weight bias forward. Just raising the engine moves it reward slightly. That they do not need. The spacer is pretty easy to make and you can keep the pivot point and the drive shaft real close to where it is originally. Then you run the drive shaft dry. I have worked on race bikes thusly set up with tons of track time no problem.

I have the lift kit from Motoren Israel. You do have to drill your case for a rather large time-sert, but the frame remains unaltered. The engine ends up lifted, tilted and a bit forward but does not affect the driveshaft mating. It is a compromise but an effective one. Ultimately I think would like to alter my frame for lifting and moving the engine forward with a spacer between the driveshaft and tranny because the bike is ass heavy and may be better balanced with this fix.The oil filter cover gets blocked by the frame, so oil filter changes are a PITA, spin on kit is a good fix. Sorry, no image of the OF side, but you may get the idea.

The hot ticket for a swing arm for roadrace purposes would be the R65 S/A. Same length as a SWB but beefier.

Wow a great modification. There must be a bit of internal socery for that to work.

The internal sorcery is in the spacer ring.

If they 79-80 driveshafts are the non dampened type I would look for one of those. I couldn't tell from the online parts finders.

You first remove the filter canister. Fitting the spacer is a fiddly affair, but once in place you wonder why it was difficult.

Not a true statement. Maybe Marcus was thinking about other SPEC classes. Bracing is allowed in all of the classes that you run with in the USCRA. I run the big tube swingarm on my 750 and an unbraced SWB SA on my 500 for what its worth. My 500 is lifted, pushed forward about an 1" (using a driveshaft spacer) and has a brace/mount from the backbone to the starter holes, truely a stressed engine. From my understanding the SA bracing was only needed for the LWB small tube models as they were prone to flexing when pushed.

I still have an unused RACELINE engine lift kit.

I'd be interested to hear a bit more on your 500 as I'm building one at the moment.:ear speed, tweeks opposition etc...

Upon further review, there is nothing in the rules book that mentions swing arm bracing. You're right, Jeff.

So...........what are you suggesting about your *spare* Raceline kit? ;~)

Will see you at the endurance race weekend, right?
