PHX - Oct 26 & 27 Howlin' at the Moon Dualsport Prescott

This year's Howlin' at the Moon dualsport is returning to Prescott!! Mark your calendars for Saturday and Sunday October 26th and 27th. 3 great routes to choose from each day. Easy jeep road C routes for the big bikes, A routes with miles of the Bradshaw's finest single track trails, and B routes with a mix of some harder jeep roads and easier single track. Each route on Saturday is 100+ miles with lunch included and Sunday routes at 80+ miles, with no gas or lunch.

Plenty of hotel and RV camping all around the area. Prescott is a great family friendly area with plenty to keep the whole family busy all weekend.

Hey Terry, you bringing your cousin the belly dancer again? Or was that Don's wife?

Ive been wanting to explore around Prescott. Last year on Thanksgiving a buddy and I rode down from Flag to Sedona to Camp Verde up Mingus down to Jerome and back to Flag. A most bitchin day eventhough it was mostly asphalt. This might be a perfect chance to explore some of Az's finest.

Not only is the event a great way to learn some great routes through a new area, but it's also an excellent opportunity to make some new riding buddies!!

The Saturday night banquet / raffle is exceptional!!

Last night I told my wife "My shoulders are still sore from that ride we did on Monday"
She asks if it was a tough ride and I told her, not really. That it certainly wasn't a Nightstalker ride.
Then she asked if you and I had officially broken up.

This time around it should be even better as we've changed the routes to give A's and B's more trail and the C's have longer routes that really explore the area around Prescott.

Here's how the routes a shaping up.

On Saturday everybody goes to Crown King for gas and a great lunch at the CK Fire Department. The 'A' route is total 106 miles, B's 102, and C's 107. Gas is at roughly 55 miles for all loops.

The SATA route has been bumped up a notch this year and includes good technical single track with names like Yankee Doodle, Arrastra Creek and Bee, along with 50" trail and awesome forest roads.

The SATB route has also been bumped up a notch to include a short section of good fun single track trail, some 50" trail, along with miles of awesome forest roads.

The SATC route is designed for the big bikes and there is no single track but there are miles of forest roads, bladed graded road, and pavement


On Sunday we have awesome loops that are a little shorter for the A's and B's, but the C's get to really stretch their legs. The 'A' route is a total of 75 miles, B's 65 miles, and C's 122.

The SUNA and SUNB routes have much in common Sunday with regard to 50" trail and forest roads but the A's also have some more singletrack to ride, including a little hidden gem not many people know about that we decided to break out for you guys. Check out the Sunday A Singletrack video for a preview.

The SUNC ride will take riders to Jerome via the twisty pavement though Mingus Mountain, then out Perkinsville Rd (dirt) to the Verde River. There riders head back towards Chino Valley, out to Williamson Valley, and then loop back via Tonto road and Contreras Rd. The roads are in great shape and the views are awesome. Checkout the hotel/camping list on www.arizonatrailriders.org for options. I believe Motel 6 is the closest to the Prescott Valley Elks Lodge but all of them are within a mile or so.

For RV campers the closest RV park to the event is Orchard Ranch Resort (928-772-8266) about 4 to 5 miles east of the Elks Lodge in Prescott Valley on Hwy 69. Even though they advertise they are 55+ they do allow adults only under 55 to camp there for this weekend. $35.00 per night. Full hookups. No dry camping available. No tent camping available. Nearest tent camping is Lynx Lake.
