This morning the weather looked perfect for a ride.
So I decided to visit a friend who owns a very large dairy farm near Oriskany Falls, NY.
Starting at Whitney Point, NY I rode up Rt 26 to Oriskany Falls.

    The first leg

Took some pictures on the way.
Rural upstate New York's scenery is enchanting.
Looking north towards Georgetown along SR 26.

Paid a brief visit at the farm, took a picture

and went on to Oneida guided by GPS.

The GPS is nearly always sending me down challenging roads and through small villlages I never knew existed.
    This time was no different.
I am happy I traded my Ninja for a dual sport. The DR650SE has surely expanded my world.

While checking out a Suzuki dealer in Oneida the sky in the west darkened ominously.
Thinking that I could outrun this by going East and then at some point turning south I got going.
After a few miles the rain started, at that time I passed a car wash with 4 bays. Whoa, turn and find shelter in the car wash.
It is not likely that anyone will enter this car wash during a thunderstorm. It provided fine shelter.

I ate my high fiber sandwich, banana and peach.
Called the missus for a reading of the local weather radar at weather.com.

When the rain turned into a very light drizzle I rode west, then south on Rt 46, W on Rt 20, at Cazenovia Rt 13 south.
After Cazenovia the sun came out to aid in drying my gear.
Approaching Cortland the sky darkened again.
I did a very fast ride home on SR 11 south.

The skies opened up with a deluge a few minutes after I arrived home. 160 miles.

Enchanting is a great word to describe upstate NY!. I used to live in the Rochester area and loved the fall there. Apple orchards, haunted hay rides, enchanting! Unfortunately, I lived there as a youth and hadn't been able to enjoy the place via motorcycle.

    Nice pics and words!

On the forum of the Yahoo DR650 Group an interesting thread developed recently.
A member reported having found a screw with a phillips head when draining the oil in his brother's bike.
A response on this thread provided the following link:

Country lore has it that: "A man who heeds a warning counts for two."

Yikes. Something else causing loss of sleep.

Has anyone attached a sidecar to a DR650? If so, do you have pictures of subframe, dimensions, material used to make frame and how is was attached to bike.
My plan is to attach an Enduro sidecar and haul my grandaughter around.

    Thanks

No changes, there is one supplement to the factory manual, for 2002 - 2006 models, and the 2007 hasn't changed at all.
The only difference is the bar-end weights are different for the '04 and later models, according to the manual.
Also, the colours are different, of course.:D

Well, i have Lurked around long enough. Of course, it took a week to catch up on this tread:rofl . But after a week of trying to decide between a DR and A KLR, well, the DR won. and here she is. Bone stock at the moment, (and clean) but that WILL change. I Have plans to Motar this baby and could use some help from anyone that has done it. I have seen a lot of pics, but I can find the tread anymore

I'm looking for yet another dr650 and I'm considering a new one this time (I'm digging the '07 in black). What are you guys paying out the door? I'm seeing $4650 before tax....so I'd get out at ~$5k. Is anyone getting screaming deals on the '07s? What about leftover '06s?

    That's not bad.
I got my '06 last year for $4.5, but it took a few phone calls.

A wild guess would be $4.4 as a bottom on a leftover '06.

My 07' was $5,500 US out the door. And they didn't want to give it to me either. Hehe, but i wasn't leaving without a black DR650, and I wasn't paying all of the silly charges either:evil

I have a question for anyone that has bought a seat for thier DR. Are the Suzuki Gel seats any good, or should i just go for the Corbin? Be honest, i'm trying not to spend too much money, but will if it's totally worth it as far as a butt cramping difference.
