Take a look at one of the last posts we made on "Rides out the backdoor" we did a loop in Sherman Co. and Wasco. Applejam has also put a lot of miles in around Waco Co. Lots of roads though wheat fields and wind farms!

We had pretty good luck with the roads there, indeed.
But to say these were gravel roads does not do them justice.
Most were great DIRT roads, clean and smooth, fast and hard.

They were very easy to ride, except for that one slimy-topped section, and it was still fun.
I have to assume they'd be muddy when wet, and dusty when dry, but they were pretty danged good to us !!

And the camping was good, too, at Chimney Rock CampGround, site #1.
There was also a "Chimney Rock Recreation Area", near the entrance to the wild river area park.

It's so hard to say what we'll get in HR area a month from now, Matloik.
Tradition and experience don't mean much here, snow levels seem to vary a lot year to year.
We never seem to know how much snow will be left in the hills each Spring.

But JUST East of here is clear now, and will likely stay clear, from The Dalles, East.

There is some good gravel around Fossil; Twickenham Rd, from Fossil to Twickenham, then to Mitchell.
South of Twickenham, for sure, is a GREAT, VERY well graded gravel Rd.
I came from the East into Twickenham, which was good gravel for quite a ways through to Cherry Creek Ranch along the John Day River.
Awesome views of the John Day River, here.

All along Tygh Ridge, and Center Creek Rd, East of Dufer, is great, easy gravel for lots of miles, too.
Ranch land and old buildings, but not much else, it was many miles of easy gravel.

Now in two weeks, dvwalker? Expect snow in the hills around the HR Valleys, but your end near 7 Mile Hill just might just be free of snow all the way through to Ketchum Rd.

You'll have a dirty bike group, you can likely handle whatever you'll find, and turn around if you don't like what you find.

I guess the sarcasm didn't come through on my part. Even though we don't want to drive too far, not more than 3 hrs, say, White Salmon to Tucker Rd wouldn't quite justify trailering the bikes. :D Cheers.

Oh, Trying to get away from us already! :rofl I just thought you both might be looking for a place to park in HR so you did not have to deal with riding over the HR bridge to ride on Oregon side! :lol3

That's a nice big flat trailer. You get a ramp with it, too?

You could fit, like 4 Quads or 2 Harleys on that, at least :lol3

I don't see any wheel chocks on that trailer, that might help!?

The trailer is 5x10. Maybe it looks bigger in the picture. No wheel chocks necessary as front wheels are strapped in place to the front rail and out to the side, preventing side-to-side movement. I have an alu ramp. A 2x12 also slides into pockets on the rear as a tail gate. I put in SS eye bolts up front, and there are welded on hooks on the sides, for moto tie down. Any more questions ... you in the back.

Okay, okay. I promise I won't quote the pic again. :dhorse I was going to make some smartass comment about not being able to keep it up, but I'm sure you've heard more than enough by now. I figured I should withhold comment until things worked themselves out.
Glad to hear they will fix Katy-M for you, Jeff. You're all right, and she will be all right, so all is good. :norton
    Hey. Don't forget I still owe you a :1drinkm'kay? I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't :p3rryuntil I can pay off. :thwak :lol3

I got the official approval from the InsCo yesterday; it's a fixer :clap
And, ya, I hope I've learned for the last time to pay frickin attention 100% ALL the time :huh!!
90%-ish was not enough for that road I was on.

See you at WetFest? I'll take that drink :1drink
It sounds like yer skipping Brookings, that is a long haul for you.
It looks like I'll be riding the old Shadow there, I can't imagine KaTy M will be fixed by next weekend :cry.

Uhuh. It would be about 1300 miles roundtrip if I went the hwy 97 route and
prolly cost me $300 to go. I'm trying to save my change for a new pony this summer. The Harley's days are numbered, I think.
Did you notice that the 2011 Weestrom comes in BLACK this year? :tb
(Not that I would ever pay any attention to such things. :augie)

WetFest is on my mandatory list this year, so will see you there for sure.
I MIGHT make it to the Wallowa/Hells Canyon campout in June
if work(sux) allows. Will know more later on.

What kind of dork would buy an orange striped helmet, just to match his orange bike? :huh

Mine now has some funny looking white scratches with red cinder dust all over the back of it :eek1
They (InsCo) gave me some money to buy a new one.
I'll likely be a dork and buy another one with orange stripes :1drink

Progressive treated me rather well, during this whole deal.
Both the woman claims rep from Bend and the woman adjuster from Portland were very moto-knowledgable, phone-friendly, fast and professional.
No hassles at all, and everything taken care of very well.
Now I just have to wait a couple of weeks for the parts ordering and the rebuild :cry

It might just make sense to have a couple of extra parts put on at this time,
that bike always was short on range for true adventures......

    New Pony?????

    No, but unfortunately,
I definitely noticed that the new 2011 Adventure is offered in a new "Cigarette Blue" Dakar 30th Anniversay Limited Edition version......

So does that mean you would be buying a new bike, or rebuilding, or both?:ear

The 2011 Adventure in blue, is that a 990 or the R1200GS-A?

The "unfortunate" part of seeing the new KTM Dakar...

...is that it cost too damn much.
But it don't stop me jonesin' for it, anyway

    Mine is getting rebuilt.

Do you still do those group rides from Big Jim's??

They haven't really started yet, I don't think.

I've been pretty busy with other stuff lately, anyway.

When you get the bike up and runnin...

P.S. That is a nice looking bike. I didn't see it listed on KTM's page.
