Tried to order a gps from gpscity.ca in Calgary for shipping to BC. Got an e-mail back that wanted me to make copies of both sides of my credit card and personal id + sign a form authoriizng payment of "international shipping" and duties and send all of the above to a fax # in Nevada. I phones gpscity in Calgary and said that I wasn't about to send that kind of info to another country (or anywhere), and that was why I was dealing with a Canadian company. Got nowhere and ended up cancelling the order. Have used them in the past with no problems. Any ideas? anjin
anjin You night want to try GPSMart at www.gpsmart.ca. They're located near Toronto and I rented then purchased a Garmin from them and their rep, Dean, was a pleasure to work with. He shipped my order the day he got it, a Friday, and I got it on the following Tuesday via courier. Cheers Fin
All they need is a VISA over the phone or you can order on line.... he said you must have called GPS city in Nevada. http://www.gpscentral.ca/contactus.htm Here's where you want to be. Cheers Stand Up
Another vote to go with www.gpscentral.com - excellent service and prices. There is a reason they are the top Gamrin dealer in Canada.
A friend had some of the same problems with GPSCity. I've never heard of any one having problems with GPSCentral.ca though.
I live in Victoria as well. West Marine will match price on the GPS unit but does not always have stuff in stock which can result in a delay. Another choice Good Luck
Ordered on line Feb 15th and postman walked into my office today (17th) with the box. Everything was shipped including GPS, Ram and Touratech stuff. No back ordered parts. 2 days is excellent service. And us B.C. boys save 7% PST. Manxman
Hi guys, thanks for all the response. I definitely ordered from gpscity.ca in Calgary and not from gpscity.com in Nevada. This was done on purpose to avoid international shipping and duty/custom broker hassles. Notwithstanding I got an e-mail confirming the order, I then got the second e-mail requesting all this info to be faxed to Nevada. When I called to complain, I called Calgary and was told this is their policy for purchases over $1000. I ended up cancelling as they would not change their mind, even though I had bought other stuff from them in the past, and my credit cards were obviously good. Their concern is protecting themselves against fraud. However if I send that kind of info to some 3rd party (in another country) I am concerned about misuse, fraud and possibly identity theft. I will try gpscentral, and thanks for all the help Anjin
gpscentral.ca in Calgary, few words to explain them any better than "BRILLIANT" !!!! I have bought two gps and mounts and lots of friends also from them. ALL very happy.
Bought a Garmin 276C from them last year. Everything went smoothly and they were helpful. I vote for them too.
Finally went for GPS Central. Best price and no faxing to Nevada. Thanks for the advice, should have new toy in a few days. Anjin
You were right, first thing Friday morning, 2730 arrived at front door. Pretty good service. Mapping functions seem straightforward. Had a small go round with the mp3 player as I guess when it says mp3 thats all it will handle, no windows media files (.wma). Once i figured out how to get my window media player to rip mp3's and not wma's, I got it to work. Of course, my entire audio library was in the wrong format and had to be re-ripped, but they did say mp3 player not audio player. BTW windows will not convert files, and will only rip mp's from cd's if you have version 10 or later (some issues there too! About 2 hrs worth). Looking fwd to getting on the bike and playing music while auto-routeing. Have to come to grips with the XM radio at some point as well. Anjin
I decided to use some christmas cash to subsidize a GPSMAP 60Cx purchase, seeing how there's a USD$50 rebate for purchases made before Dec 31st. The rebate form has to be mailed out before Jan 31st. I ran into gpscentral.ca by accident (it was the .ca domain that caught my eye). The low prices actually worried me a bit, so I came to see what advriders had to say about the company, and I see it's nothing but praise! Hopefully there won't be any snags with the rebate, then it will have come to CAD$427 after shipping and everything.
+1 for gpscentral.ca My fiance got me a RAM mount from them... She was very surprised she got the package a few days after placing the order, even with the Christmas rush etc, she couldn't believe how fast it got here.
