Well, it's getting cold outside again, time to start talking about ice riding again. Since I never stop thinking about riding on the ice, I figured I should start a new thread:lol3

It would be fun to actually form a club of sorts to maybe start doing races for fun. I have access to some insurance and even a sanctioning body to make this happen. Time trails could be fun on a nice long course but I prefer wheel to wheel racing as do most of you. Having actually competed in a real deal AMA ice race, I can tell you that it's a damn good time mixing it up for 3 hours:clap

I took a little bit of video at the Steel shoe race in January. As you can see it's a great time!

After night riding with Nate Dog a few weeks ago, I think some night ice riding could be fun:D

Exactly! We really need to find a pond or lake that's half way between us, so we can meet up more.

Wiseass.....:D I was thinking Farmers Almanac type predictions on weather for the season where last year was so mild and ice was non-existant. Trying to gauge my effort.........

Yea, you won't be riding with me with those:lol3 The Almanac claims cold and snow this year. The Key is to get cold before the snow starts, because snow kills thin ice but can recover if we get some sunny cold days. It changes fast, it's amazing to behold.

This ice riding is something I've been wanting to try a few years, but never had the chance. In fact, I bought a new set of Trelleborg studed tires two years ago and never even got them mounted. What are the requirements on bike setup as far as fenders and other safety items?

Trellies are great for riding the trails during the winter, but not good for riding/racing on lakes and ponds. For that the right setup is true ice tires with screws. Fenders and tether kill switches are advised, but almost no one that is just riding recreationally runs either.

Where would one purchase the studs and what would be a good tire (F&R) to start with?
