I can't sit still and I can't wait any longer. Myself and 3 others will start a modified version of Cannonshot's UPAT on Thursday. Instead of 1250 miles we will be doing roughly 1000.

Anyone else going to be riding the UP over Labor Day weekend?

My riding partner of 30 yrs. aka my wife and I are leaving on Thur. morning from the Lansing MI. area for a trip using as much of the big bike route and trails we can handle. Both on 1200gs bikes trying to pack as lightly as possible. I don't know if we will get up the Keewanaw or not on this trip. We have both lived in the state our entire lives and have never been to the Porcupine Mtns. We are starting out at St. Ignace.

If you see some fat kid pedaling a mountain bike down the trail towards copper harbor with a bunch of camping shit strapped to it- that'll be me. :wave

Going to defend my Western Central Upper Peninsula Touring/Super-D/XC combined championship this weekend at Fat Tire: http://www.keweenawadventure.com/fat_tire.htm

Should be a pretty good party in CH on Sunday night.

Daughter and I will be camping in the Yellow Dog Plains/ Huron Mountain area. Big Erick's if there's a spot, otherwise somewhere back in the sticks. No Queenbee unfortunately, she's in California taking care of her sick and aging mom :cry

If you ride AAA road or Northwestern road we may cross paths.

In any case, have a safe ride.

    Cheers,
    Dave

ANy changes in the riding up on the plains since the mine operation went in? Truck traffic on the AAA/510? I would assume no changes on the NW trail thru Dodge City due to the mine

AAA has been greatly "improved". Wide and solid mining road.

Guess that means we will be taking the NW route to run over to Big Eric's. Not looking to ride "improved". Could just run up and down 510 if wanted to run "improved".

Been way too much of that "progress" up around there in the last 30-40-50yrs. Heck, I remember needing a 4x4 or a true beater to haul the canoe back to Bear Lake or even the three Bass Lakes........... Now pvt property abounds.

How is the AAA going from Anderson's corner to Big Erics? Has that been "improved" too?? Or is all the improvement east on the AAA from the mine?

Just the thing I was wondering. We usually camp at one of a couple spots off AAA that I've found over the years. I'm hoping I can still do that. I've always thought of AAA as just a way into the area- I don't find the road itself all that interesting. I like NW road though. We also like to explore the roads that branch off AAA and Ford roads. Especially the ones that go north off the plains and into the woods- no sand!

Great blueberry picking up there now too.

Looks like great riding weather this weekend- cool days, chilly nights. Perfect!

    Cheers,
    Dave

Well they did improve it past the mine for a ways at least up to the spot where Jim got that rear flat and nobody had a tube about two years ago. But once you get down around where Mike broke his clutch cable closer to where I saw the wolves it is pretty much untouched. :lol3
