CX 650 Custom/ Stupid is as stupid dose ... till it's black and blue

Solid 7050 billet aluminum, both the hub/drum and the backing plate. That was a LOT of material to remove. I saw it while it was in-work but, not the finished product.

And they say I make a lot of chips...

By the time that material was made into curly chips, it probably filled a 55 gallon drum.

They did it in a Haas VF-5XT (machining center), not a lathe like you'd expect. The groove between the spoke flanges was done last, on a manual lathe. Removing all that material from the inside of the drum was done on the mill. Even the slightly domed outer contour was done on the mill. They didn't have a CNC lathe to cut the finish passes on so it was ball-milled and hand finished on the manual lathe.

Been resting up trying to put time off to good use..... Witch means lots of research....

I need to start the pipes I guess......So hunted down the one that I thought was the best at the best price...This is what I got coming .....

Then coming to a Aluminum cross box to come out the side of the motor cowling....Maybe like this...?

The other part that has taken some time to find is the RAD...

Lots of them out there from China ....The hard part it find the dimensions and outlets that work...:huh

That means LOTS of hunting and looking...... Maybe this one...,hunt it down, 20 pages later ....Nope wrong size...And so on.....
Then I find the one......



Comes from a CBR 125....:huh Then It's tring to find one thats not in the UK or China....looking......looking....:ddog

Well I did a little weighing today...... Just this little bit is 17 lbs:huh....



I can't imagine what the rest of the pipes ,cross over, wheels And all the other junk I cut off adds up too.....

One more reason for the new rad...It had to weigh 10-12 pounds too..:huh



I want this bike to be like none other....Must keep pushing....

Chinese made aluminum radiator for the 98 tl1000 on ebay approx. $88. its smaller than it looks, the tl is a narrow engine

I blew mine up completely by running the big end dry with prolonged epic wheelies.

It can only be like 11.5 at the most....... It was hard to find....

Something to be proud of..... Good to know....

Waiting for word from a fellow in the cx forum for a new batch of oil filter/cooler plates ..... maybe that will help.....

Can you have tis one shortened at an old school rad shop?

Same rad... Research.....We will put a nice plastic lite weight fan behind it....And should still have room for a oil cooler too ...

I was excited to get out to the shop tonight and work on the mohawk...

We start here welding the mohawk pins....:huh



Now the fender will bolt on like this....

We drill the holes for the hoops and get the first real look...




I feel hand the hoops in the hole trick....Takes a bit.....I use the coffee can in the back ground for reference to see w/my eye can not...



Now we thread the hoop though the hole...Which just fits after I file a bit....

I've been watching this build every day, but did not expect to see my Superhawk on these pages. Thanks, I guess.
You are correct it did not run hot, but only because of the dual fans. Be glad to answer questions but do not want to thread jack, so pm me if need be.

I hate when people do this to me, so please don't hesitate to tell me off, at your discretion.
But I wonder how the fender would look with the long section behind the fork. Right now it looks backward, to me anyway.

Your bike, your choices and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

The fans are stock, but are unusual in that they are pusher fans. Designed to push air through the radiator as opposed to pulling it. The blade design is completely different, and will not work as a puller.
So air was sucked through the mesh in the cowl and pushed through the radiator into the void between the tire and the radiator.
The seat never got hot and the engine actually ran cooler than a stock set-up.

Enough about mine, get back to work on yours. Like I said, I look in everyday.

From last night we cut out the hoop holders...rough...





Get the front one tuned in a bit...




Then I get this one bolt stuck when I turned it into the plate.....



Spend the next 1/2 hr trying to get it back out because the button head strips out of course.... Then looking all the fuck over for my new vice grips...

Back ones and more stupid tricks...




All 4 all prrrretty......




Will go like this and be welded on the rod side ,so no show....




Now thats done .....I can't really weld them on till I put the new tire on to see for clearance...And I can't do that till I p/coat the rims....And still waiting for Scott to call me about the blue swatches....:ddog
