Went from OC to San Felipe today and I started getting a f1 code 4 slow 5 fast then in the parking lot at the hotel I feel over, now it won't start....nothing push the start button NOTHING....no fuel pump sound and we have checked the fuses in the glove box ........HELP ANY IDEAS........Lenny
The Lenny? I'm guessing by the bikes that it's the Lenny that helps so many others in Baja with spares, etc. Jay here in PDX (of Jay and Scott at Mike's Sky Ranch) and here is what I found: I saw elsewhere on the site that it looks like code 45 which is the rear lambda sensor, or a short to it. Check where it runs down the frame (left side?) as sometimes the crash bars where they meet the frame can pinch the wire. Hopefully the experts can help further. I'll keep an eye on the thread (and email) - if there is anything I can do from here I'm happy to help.
Yes Jay it's me and that sound like something to look at .....I Dropped it on the left side please try and find what I should look for ...This bike is all new to me..PS I'm at the Mira Mar and will dig in to in at light
Battery cables tight, petcocks fully open, charcoal canister empty; tanks properly vented; ignition switch wiring connections tight? what else? Maybe check relays under the seat- switch them around and see if it changes. I throwing out there what I can think of to check. Don't feel compelled to respond! How's the fuel filter? How many miles you at? Check the power connection to the fuel pump- that had me stuck outside that Mission in Calamajue. I might be able to post a wiring schematic, if it'd help. Tell us what you might need.
Hey Lenny - at least there's good fishing there. The rear mounting point where the crash bar meets the frame should look like a "C" shaped clamp that wraps part way around the frame. There is supposed to be a wire running from the rear lambda along that part of the frame. Check the wire there and see if it has been damaged (or maybe pulled on by the crash bar?). It is visible without taking the bike apart. The end of the crash bar can be unbolted there without too much of a pain in reinstalling, but be careful before taking the whole thing off as it's a hassle to re-mount where you're at. I'll keep digging for more insight. To clarify, the code was being displayed before the tip over on the way to San Felipe?
Ok Jay I remember a wire back there I check that out in the morning when I can see .......keep them coming guy THANKS AGAIN talk to you in the morning
Ok guys WE FOUND IT .......I pinched the wire on the left side cage and blew a fuse........Some one was looking after me it that would have happen in the dirt I would have been srewed......thanks Jay and talk to u sooon........Lenny
Can someone post up a photo of this vulnerable wire location. I think it might be one of the first free mods I do when I get my new bike -- relocate or move that wire... ben
Great news Lenny! I feel like The Weatherman. Glad you are up and running. San Felipe seems to attract limping bikes with fuel issues. Give me a ring when you're back state side to catch up. Cell and email are in your PM's. Jay
Hey Lenny, Glad you got good help from these awesome OC cats! Did you ride Diablo wash side trails into Felipe? Thoughts on your bike in Baja? Are you having fun on it down there?
Where home and THANKS AGAIN JAY I would have never found that......what a great trip in two day we covered 765 miles and 8 tacos.........I can say this ...This 990 gets in the dirt, one of the fastest runs from Valley T to Mikes I've ever done on a bike.
Lennys, Glad you made it home! Hair raising for sure. My guess would have been the sidestand switch. But glad you found it. BG
Had Steve at Clean do the front forks with 64 springs and it made a huge differance......bottomed the rear out a half dozen times but only the front once.......need some more seat time and im going to raise Casper to 240mm..........dont need to go any faster really (speedo said 87 on the way to Mikes) just need some more ground clearance.......again very inpressed by this bike.
No we made it to mikes about 3:50pm and they were sold out so down the hill and slabed it to San Felipe, I didnt know if the lake bed would be wet or not so we went the safe way and im glad we did cause sunday on the way home we did morllie wash to the lake bed and these bikes are a handfull in SOFT sand LOL.. also there were alot of wet spots on the lake bed and im not doing 2 ft plus whoops if I dont have to...
