Hi all, I kinda want some Hippo Hands for my ST. I had some ATV mittens on my KLR and two things I didn't like; 1. Had to modify them to fit around the mirrors, so they didn't protect as well. 2. They were flappy, so it was difficult to put my hand back if I had to adjust my visor etc I got to thinking and since the ST doesn't have mirrors on the bars, I could just use ATV mittens again since they cost about 1/3-1/2 what the Hippo Hands cost. But, if they Hippo hands are more rigid and easier to stick your hands back into, then I'm interested again. Can anyone comment on that?
I have Hippo Hands for my RT. I can get my hands in and out no problem with my regular (non-heated) gloves. I was pretty nervous about it the first couple of times out, but it hasn't been a problem at all. My heated Gerbing gloves (big insulated winter ones in XXL) are a little too bulky to get them in and out as easy as I would like - I'm sure you could do it, but I don't feel comfortable with it. Using the Hippo Hands with just the heated grips on is very warm. It's definitely way warmer than using my heated gloves and grips at the same time without the Hippo Hands. Cutting down on the wind, etc makes a huge difference.
Ditto! I'd re-check how you have them installed. As dorky as they look...I could now never live without them for my winter commute.
I looked at a couple different types of ATV mitts, then bought Hippo Hands. There's no comparison, the Hippo Hands are far superior and worth the money IMO. Stiffer, made to fit your bike, easily fitted around mirrors, easy to get in and out of.
These are the Oxford Handlebar Muffs (available at Twisted Throttle $49.99). I prefer these to the Hippo Hands (which are just too big IMO). I've had several different brands of handlebar gauntlets and these seem to fit the bill. The HH work well, but they do require some "getting used to"... BTW, I also like the Tusk Gauntlets and they are cheap ($14.99). The Oxfords. The Tusks.
