Any experiency in replace the original H7 headlight bulb in the 990 adv for any of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-H7-3528...Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d05426ae2&vxp=mtr or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-White...arParts_SM&hash=item1c29cd5aea#ht_4854wt_1149 Regards, German
Would be cool if its bright enough.. Looks unlikely that it would ever just burn out,, just gradually dimm. NOt leave ya stranded with the little DTR bulb for lighting.. :) Dave
LEDs require optics, the plug in bulbs might look bright to look at but are worthless to see anything with, Ive tried them all.
At 300LM-330LM @ 7.5w that's about the same as a 40W incandescent bulb: Not much. A 55w "factory" Quartz Halogen lamp can produce about 750LM Compare to a 35W Xenon headlight at (approx) 2800LM
Lumens mean more than watts, watts are what the bulb consumes? Lumens are what you measure at 10 feet.. At least for me the Lumen number is standard cause I have to use a light meter to adjust bulbs all the time and it reads in Lumens or candlepower depending on the lighting system. Gives me a fair mental image of how bright the thing is ,,, the reflector still plays most of the game.. In the end,, PICS!!!!! Dave
This. All of those diodes are a single light source. Putting them on a pole that connects to a plug would just cause the light to diffuse. That is why those off road lights are fixed in arrays of LEDs so that each one can be in focus and the effect is cumulative.
Understood. But in this case it's the only reference. So, relatively speaking, more lumens = more light.
I would go with a plug "n" play HID. I got a H7 for $35, came with the ballist and everything. In January it will be 4 years and 50k.
Not really I can show you a 1000 lumen light that will provide much more light than most 4000 lumen lights. Now if your comparing a certain bulb in the same fixture with a another bulb of a higher lumen rating then yes, It will mean something, however just the blanket statement or comparison of light to light, it doesn't mean squat. Optics are kind of important with lights.
OK. I have read about the full pop upgrades with Euro spec KTM light and HID light kit for $500+. But I am looking for some improvement at a lower cost. I rarely ride at night and don't need a killer setup--just a little upgrade for those rare instances when I do ride at night. I see the setups on these sites and am wondering what you guys think? http://www.ddmtuning.com/Product-Categories/Motorcycle-HID-Kits-Lighting http://www.motorcyclehidlights.com/ktm-990-adventure-hid-lights-c-83_737 Are the "slim fit" ballasts needed for the Adventure? Just found a good thread on this. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=778137&highlight=Euro+spec&page=2 Thanks!
...with 35 watt hid in the us dot reflector is...marginal improvement. Yes it is better than the standard bulb but its not a final solution. I Roundoz-engineered a projector hid, gutted the oem headlight as the reflector was no longer needed and installed an led driving light in the top position, above the projector. Its much better but I am hard to please and wish I had gone 50 watt and a higher quality projector like a Hella....I use my rigid driving lights all the time and switching to lowbeam (rigids off) leaves me in comparative dimness.
No. It's also halogen (H7 low beam, H3 high beam), bit better than the US version (H4 low&high beam in one bulb).
I bought the $55 DDM over a year ago, the lights a monster compared to stock. Best $55 I've spent. http://www.ddmtuning.com/Product-Categories/Motorcycle-HID-Kits-Lighting
