As someone who put money down on a GS 800 back in July (sight unseen), I have an intense interest in when & where these bikes are being delivered. I think it would be interesting to hear from others who already have orders in & who may even have received their bikes. So; of the people who have received your bikes in the USA; did you buy models that dealers had ordered for their inventory, or did you receive a bike you had ordered in advance? If so, when did you place your orders? Personally, I put an order in in July, in Santa Fe NM. My bike is listed as being "in production" as of 9/16. Please understand, I am not trying to dig up any conspiracy or "issue" here, I'm just interested in how it's playing out.
Check the threadfest -- There are a number of people who have received their bikes already. (Just got in from riding around in the dirt with mine, actually) I put my deposit down last November. In January the dealership (Hermy's BMW in Port Clinton) was able to configure my bike. I got exactly what I wanted except that they added in white turn signals. They received it on August 25th, and I took delivery August 30th. Sounds like you're going from deposit to production in three months! You may be setting a record of some sort! (BTW, the bike is worth waiting for -- it's fantastic)
I ordered one on 7/9 and I received this email today from my sales guy: ...Your F800GS has been completed shipped from Germany on the 9/13. Right now it's 5 days into the Atlantic. I'll keep you posted as to when it arrives in New Jersey. I think you will be riding early to mid October. Woot!... I can't wait!
put money down mid June for one they had on the way ( it just happened to be the way I wanted it) drove away august26
I just spent a weekend off road riding on one of these, my word they are amazing machines. I'm so tempted to get one, even though I'm supposed to be saving up for a different bike. Sam
Yeah, the response I wanted to send was: "Please avoid storms." But I'm going to hope for the best because except that one time (I think it was) Mazda lost a ship full of cars, those ships don't go down that often.
I can't resist. :eek1 It is a freak thing, of course. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-510033/Branscombe-year-A-village-torn-apart-greed.html
That's pretty funny! And look how well that motorcycle came through the whole incident. I might have to go looter hunting if that happened to my bike. Still, just hoping for a whole lot less of this: :dog
So, for all of you who have now taken possession, did they come with the cheapy skid plate? The reason I ask is because my dealer is not sure if they are coming with the plate or not (Not here yet, Canada) and if not, will have to charge me an extra $40 for the mounting bolts for the Aluminium plate I have already purchased.
Baja Vet: Deposit in August & delivery all ready??! Were you ordering one or did you claim one the dealer already had coming? Toadride: The bike my dealer has on the floor has what I take to be the standard issue BMW "skidplate": a black plastic bash guard of sorts. It is bolted on, so I'd hope the same bolts would work for the BMW accessory aluminum bash plate, but no promises.
