Hi all, We came up with an idea of arranging a meeting in Spain after an innocent question from an inmate http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=21633021&postcount=639 Of course, riders from any places are welcome. Please sign in to this thread to know how many people is interested and any suggestions you may have. The suggested date is first weekend in may 2014 trying to include the 1st of May which is a local day off for most of riders in the area. Also, Motostrail suggested a campsite (http://www.collegats.cat/) but the meeting is open to any area or ideas. We shall include off and on road routes so we have options for everyone. Keep in mind this is no corporate or comercial event, just some friends meeting so every body will arrange their own means of transportation, food and camping. Let's see where this idea ends up Regards
Thanks Santi, Just a taster for the region. NB The video is from my last rally here and all reference to the HISS is just coincidence - this is something completely different as far as organisation goes.: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/3qfNNb2qOOo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Let the good times roll . . . I had a notification of someone posting here but the post didn't materialise. I guess the author scrapped his/her post. That's up to them but from their comments, which came through on the notification mail, prompted me to make the following observations: In Spain as a whole motor vehicles are restricted to lanes/trails of over 4.5 metres wide. In practice this means that anything that is clearly passable by a car, i.e. in with double tracks, is OK - no matter how bad the surface may be! - but everything narrower, i.e. footpaths, are out of bounds. In all cases bikes must be road legal and have their papers on board. There are also some trails, i.e. in nature reserves, where access is restricted, but these are all clearly signed. Furthermore, in Catalonia there is a limit to the number (7) of motorbikes that can pass on a trail together without special permission, which is difficult and expensive to obtain and only really pertains to pukka organised events. Now, it's not as if the mountains are crawling with police just waiting to pounce on happy bikers, but the nature reserves are patrolled by forest rangers and folks riding like maniacs may draw attention to themselves, especially bearing in mind that over a big holiday weekend, like this one, there will be a lot of hikers and mountain bikers, as well as hunters, birdwatchers, etc. If any of these good people made an official complaint then the police have to act. In reality this is extremely unlikely, especially out here in the wilds, a long way from population centres like Barcelona or Madrid where sensitivity and enforcement run much higher - the message is that there is more than enough fun to go round, just take it easy. Back to the law: the fines are up to €600 per infraction and €6,000 for the person deemed to be the organiser, i.e. the individual at the head of a group when the 'bust' happens. It's best to get this one sorted at the outset - everyone will be responsible for themselves. Regs Simon
I like the idea I hope it comes together and im pretty sure it will Dunno what the plans for next year are yet but it's on the list Good luck with it guys
No Problem, All you have to do is pass a simple test: But maybe you'll need an inoculation certificate to get out again Regs Simon
That sounds like good idea - i like Anzánigo but I've never actually stayed there - I didn't realise the bungalows were for hire, I thought they belonged to the 'resident' campers! The bonus for me would be the chance to explore the trails in the region - after my accident i've promised Mrs S - and myself! - not to ride trails alone any more, and there are some gems around there: Mallos de Riglos, to the Castillo de Loare and back via Aquiluí for example. Plus it's a short hop over to the Bardena Blanca . . . The downside might be the crowds of other bikers there for the GP, I gather this is always quite an event. It might not be such a bad thing, but if we're wanting to 'bond' into a group then it might make this more difficult - don't know really. It might also be handy not to be in Catalonia as by then if Scotland gets its independence then Britain might annex the principality in exchange for Gibraltar - so we'd have to drink warm beer and eat soggy chips every day Regs Simon
I'm definitely in for this - I'm still pretty much grounded but by next year . . . Meanwhile, the Aragón HISS was a brilliant success, so that's always a possibility as it's more central . . . Regs Simon
Hi Everyone Introducing myself to ADV Riders, I'm definitely up for May 2014. I met The Spanish Biker (at last) earlier in the month on the HISS Aragon trip who suggested I take a look here. It was great to get back on some trails and blow away the off road cobwebs. HISS Aragon was well organised and good fun. I'm looking to do more of the same (before it's too late ), and up for any ideas for off roading in Spain. Looking forward to meeting up Spanish Johnny
Hi Johnny, Welcome to the asylum :) I've been wondering if the Aragon HISS location wouldn't be a good idea as it's so central for so many folks, as opposed to the Pyrenees. I'd also like to survey the trails on Maestrazgo ranges that I identified for the original HISS plan and after my crash this summer have vowed not to go surveying alone again - remember i did almost all of the hundreds of K's of trails that you guys did on my lonesome over two visits this spring and summer Cheers Simon
Well, my registration of an interest soon made this thread go very quiet! - It's probably being planned on youtweetbook.com at this very moment!
