    Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct forum, apologies if not.

It's a momentous day for me. After 8 years of waiting and life getting in the way of simple pleasures I finally got myself a 1994 Honda Ct110 (Postie Bike).

It's in great nic... etc etc.

My question is (I'm located in QLD, Australia), does anyone have any suggestions for a quick release system that I could use to place a pillion seat on the rear rack and quickly be able to release it and use the same / similar system to have a milk crate or similar on the back?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. A comprehensive search of all things internet has come up with nothing so far, but there must be some good ideas out there somewhere?

    Thanks again,

    Rob

For a milk crate -I have used "removable" zip ties for such a purpose. If you are not familiar with them they have a little tab on the lock so you can release them.

Regular zip ties are cheap enough. Just cut them off and replace them as needed.

Wouldn't use them for a pillion though. Unless it's for looks and not for a passenger:lol3

Thanks for the idea on the re-usable ties.

It's given me new inspiration, I'll take a look and see what springs up around that theme.

    Thanks again.... Rob

You are very lucky to be able to get a CT110 that new, assuming it is still like the older ones we have here. I found this one on Craigslist. It would already be mine if I fit on it. Unfortunately I am a bit too big for these great little bikes.

The shop I bought it from has all sorts. Mine was considered very old. He's had plenty of 2000 to 2010 ranging models over the years. www.onetenmotorcycles.com.au

I'm feeling lucky though, she's a great bike! Just gotta sort out my milk crate. Can't have a postie bike without a milk crate. It's law around these parts.

Not to be too OT but I was glancing through CL in your neck of the woods and was surprised to find that CTs in general seemed to be priced higher than they are out here in central CA. Would you agree, and if so, why do you suppose that is?

Congrats on your new bike! I'm looking on getting one of these myself someday. Yours is a 4 stroke 12 volt, isn't it? Dang, those bikes on that link are beautiful! How much is air fare to Australia?

People are smoking crack if they want $2k for 30+year old bike that was only $300 new...or even $1.5k or even $1k.

Just spent 7 hours in the saddle today on her. Proper adventure riding. Day 2 of 5. Will update with blog entry when done. Never ended up with the swappable rear seat. Just got the little lady her own bike instead. :-)

Just sold a 1981 CT110 in Jan 2014 for $850. A solid bike and it ran well. I'd owned it for over fifteen years but wasn't riding it anymore (prefer my Helix for casual road cruising). I joked with my wife that I could have sold TEN of them if I'd had them ... There were that many calls.

Great scoots - too bad they're not imported (to U.S.) any more.

Hey robstarr - check out TCI's website.

Might give you some ideas anyway.

Wifey's Super Sherpa has a TCI Borrego rear rack, with a quick-release top case adapter. Works well. Perhaps the concept could work for you?

Basically, hooks on one end, and a spring-loaded pin on the other. With the pin released, the plate comes rear-ward and lifts away.

When I used to have a milk crate on the back of my elite I made a bracket that was fixed on the bottom of the milk crate, It held in place a few bolts which lined up with the rack on my elite. Then I just used some wing nuts and rubber washers to hold it on to the rack. Worked great and was real easy to install/remove.

I assume you could do a similar modification to the pillion seat.

Here's a crate on my ct-200. Used bolts and those nylon knob nuts or whatever they're called. Cheap and dismounts real quick.

Other ones are under my aux fuel tank.

Doing what it was meant to do.

I sure wish Honda would bring that Cross Cub 110 to North America. I would prefer if it had the Grom engine in it but would buy one nonetheless .

I have a nice 77 Trail 90, but the Cross Cub would be great!
