Riding 01 f650gs departing Sacramento early April, destination Vero Beach, FL (visit brothers), planning to return in late May. pumped about this eight week 6,000mi trip and seeking advice, suggestions, cautions, weather concerns, places to go, people to see, tales from the equipped. I want to camp, couch surf and motel a southern route: AZ, NM, TX, LA, FL and it would be great to join with other riders for portions of my journey or short visit when in your neck of the woods.

Here's a route I suggested on a recent thread:

1. Texas 118 from IH-10 at Kent to Fort Davis.

2. River Road (FM 170) from Presidio to Big Bend Nation Park

3. Ranch Road 337 from Camp Wood to Medina.

It keeps you out of some of the San Antonio congestion...

Short cuts would be to delete #2 by riding direct from Fort Davis to Marathon or deleting #3 by riding Hwy 90 straight east from Uvalde through Castroville and on through San Antonio to link with IH-10.

NFE, thanks for the suggestions, though I may not do this CA<->FL trip, as reading the Mexico/CA ride planning thread has me charged up. joined ADV in 2008 when I bought my bike, now getting serious about moto travel, but a rookie. thinking of going to a spanish immersion school in mexico for a few weeks as a first step. I'm about 600mi from Tijuana, 900 to Nogales. Might talk one or both brothers into meeting me there for some fishing. anyways, lovin' ADVrider forums, lots of inspiration here!
