Has anyone installed an oil temp gauge on their F800/F700? If so, which one?

So far, the only one I found is this one:

The good thing about it is that there is no install to perform, really.

The bad thing is that you can't see it while riding, so it kind of defeats the whole purpose. I mean, if I want to know the temp while stopped, I can just point my infrared thermometer at the engine. Also, you lose the ability to tell your oil level unless you mark this new gauge somehow. Finally, it's kind of expensive for what it is, but then again, as I quickly found out, just about everything is for these bikes.

    Any other options out there?

Sure, thing, Petey my boy! Point the infrared thermometer at the motor while riding!:deal Actually, don't do that. Touralich will then offer a Harbor Freight infrared thermometer at a 1,500% mark up and a picture of it being used in some former Soviet republic.

Kind of. On the Harley you look like you are checking if your fly is open, and on the BMW you look like you are checking if your bootlace is done up.

The HD unit I have in my Road Glide, goes a step further, and at the push of a button, gives you a LCD bar graph of the oil level. Very handy. Personally, I'd like to have both an oil temp and pressure gauge on my F8GS.

Someone got a picture of the HD gauge? :lol3

At one of my old jobs we had a set of "crayons" that were some bright color and formulated to melt at graduated temperatures. I measured the temperature of my fully-warmed bike and grabbed the next two crayons from the set and put marks on both sidecovers and figured if the marks ever melted something was wrong... cheap and easy but not a lot of resolution or history captured ...

I wish I'd taken that set with me as a parting gift when I left the job.
