yup. doing the expedition. se has the super tanker installed so distance shouldn't be a big issue. although i'll be chasing boats so that means we'll be twisting the wrist a bit.

I've had good success on a few trips using a Dromedary bag. Holds 10 liters. Rolls up when not needed. I put a Nalgene bottle cap on it. All in it was like 30$ or something. Has multiple spots to attach it to the bike when full.

Fumes leak threw it so you don't want to store it in your luggage. Took tube maybe. I just laid it flat, when empty, on back rack and put luggage on top of it.

In the rough, my LC8 needs 10L/100Km
I have 2 rotopax and, if needed, a Pelican case wich can hold perfectly another 10liters.

Can't be sure if Ill be free these days, but I wan't to ride both RR (and the CRC)


Close to Ottawa (on the Quebec side) I could have space for 2 to 4 vehicle (depending on the size...)

last time I checked my X Challenge was making 40 mpg. With stock 2.5 gallon tank I will need another 4 gallons. That's 2 Rotopaxs... I can just take the wee strom but I would be happier on BMW

For us in the states,,, that equates to 23.5 miles per gallon... even on a worst day I have never averaged that bad on either the Adventure or SE.

I don't think Ted is putting us through 300 miles of swampy single track where the average consumption will be that low. I've estimated 33 mpg (7L/100KM) average for this ride taking into consideration terrain and speed.

No water, no swamps on Explorers. Sandy/gravel roads

I'd feel safier with a 28mpg estimation, what I did in Moab White rim (lot of sand, no luggage).

But you are right... 33mpg on Quebec gravel roads is correct

So realistically based on these mileage estimates where my Standard GS has a road range of 220 miles or so I should figure this to be maybe 160 miles! Damm I guess I'll be shopping fuel storage as well.

Any thoughts from those who know regarding taking a F800 vs the 12 with regard to fun factor? Fuel range will be about the same.

I did the Trans Taiga this year and were knocking down a bit better mileage than I do on the road due to the lower speeds. One of the guys was riding a standard GS and was getting greater than 220 miles on a tank, granted he didn't have much left but he didn't run out either. Also we were very smooth on the gas as we knew we had a lot of miles to cover between fuel stops.

The F700 on our trip ran out of fuel several times just prior to our fuel stops, but he has fixed that now with a new aux fuel tank. And here is how he solved it.

Well, I'm not a reference in fuel consumption.
I'm not very fast, but I try to keep the engine in the "quick response" range and have the front wheel as light as possible.
Once I tried to be economic (Route du Nord, going to TransTaiga), I felt and broke my neck!
Never again, I prefer to be out of gas than out of head

Try to keep up with Team LC8 and you will be out of gas in the first 50km!



But then again,,, it's not a race. :huh

Blaster ...assuming you may be attending...will you ride up from Southern Maryland or truck to a take off a bit further north?
I am on the lower eastern shore and undecided til probably a week away from start.

Already signed up, and I will be riding up to the event. Don't wait too long to sign up as it sounds like it's filling up fast.

That other 650 has it's own operator that will be signing up with me.
My other option is wee Strom but I don't want to that...

Since my K60 scouts aren't going to cut it, what do you guys recommend as a knobbie? I was looking at the TKCs.

Mitas e0o Dakar rear and c17 front? It's what I'm planning on running.
