Before the ParisDakar rally, there was the Cote d'Ivoire-Core d'Azur rally. I found some pictures of that rally in the Yamaha corporate magazine "Circuit"

Nice! Did you get any of our team? #42, 98 and 99? We were too busy to take photos and now I regret not having many at all. The bikes are long gone, so it would be nice to see them again.
    fun fun

This bike was owned by an independent rider seeking donations at this year's Overland Expo in Mormon Lake, AZ.

Hi Pebble, any local connection that you know of in view of the Bikers Jersey sponsorship?

Bikers Jersey is my business - we are helping Pyn out with all his KTM parts and accessories :clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

Have to confess to being a bit of a Dakar nut - but this is the closest I am ever likely to get to actually taking part :cry:cry

It took a lot of time, also because I had other things to during 2013... on week in Tunisia and the Rallye Jo-Jo with my other AT, 5-6 races in the Italian Motorally Championship with my DRZ :D) but now I have my Dakar Marathon alive and well:

here it is restored at its best possible
    [IMG]

Got Italian papers and so did a couple of thousand KM here around

But only a couple of weeks ago at last had the engine really working fine :clap, due to some dirt in the carburettor, probably coming form that old and damaged front tank...
So the next year I will test it a little bit more in a "lighter" mode

    Nice 2013 everybody:1drink

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Dakar, but nothing beats the big heavy bikes they used to run. They were so cool looking. The new ones are dirt bikes with fairings and fuel.

I agree but even though the bikes have been downsized, the event is still the reason we love Dakar Rally bikes and they are still hauling ass! I want a 450 Rally from KTM to go with my 950 and 640 but not at that price!

    Yes, bike looks great Gian.

I too love the older, heavier Dakar bikes.

It's strange that now, although there are lots of different manufacturers in the Dakar, you can't buy a look-alike bike like you could in the '80s. I know that the Super Teneres, Africa Twins, Elefants etc etc were far removed from the actual race bikes but all of the manufacturers at that time were cashing in on the attraction of the Dakar bikes. Now things have gone full circle and no one has a showroom look-alike of a Dakar bike. :confused

990 Adventure surely still qualifies as a Dakar 'lookalike' ?
