Has anyone put one of the 08 + factory heavy duty skidplates on their pre 08 bike? This is the skidplate with the large rubber piece to spread the forces, I can't find anyone to answer the question. I am working on a 06 R1200GS Adventure. Thanks
I added one to my 09. Real nice installation and seems more robust than many alternatives. If I had a pre 08 I would research the standard parts on the Old vs new bike and see if I could make a more Informed guess. That and work with the supplier of the parts should it turn out poorly. Hope it goes well For you.
You could try checking out max bmw microfiche. If the part #s for the newer regulare skidplate and the older GSA are the same I'd think the new skidplate would work. Haven't heard of any "underengine" changes. I have one on my 09 you remove and replace some of the mounting stuff with the new hardware, stick on the big bumper and then the plate.
The part numbers for the smaller bash plate are the same for 06, 07, 08, 09... so I would assume that it would be interchangeable. The only dif I see is in the mounting bracket of the newer ones but same lower plate. I am planning on doing the switch for my 06 so this was a timely post.... But if the small one fits on all years (but the 2010) then you are good I think for the bigger one. Dean
Thanks for the feedback, I assumed that it would fit since I wasn't aware of any major engine redesigns for the earlier bikes. It just kind of bothered me to spend that kind of money for a part which clearly said it would not fit.
I just ordered one through the dealer for my '07, pre-facelift, as they call it. The skid plate numbers are the same as stated earlier, just post face-lift on the 2007 they changed from the two mounting bolts directly into the the block, to the bracket that has one through bolt at the front of the block and then the skid plate mounts to the bracket not the block. You will need to order the through bolt for the block, the bracket and the bolts to mount the plate to the bracket when you get the skid plate. Adds about $45 to the cost.
