Never perform complex operations on your favourite bike, when you're looking funny... Glad to hear it's looking like it should button up correctly ! Give us your impressions of the benefits of the taller gearing for highway running, compared to the oem's 15/42 ratios. I'm looking forward to running farther out in first before having to shift to 2nd, with the 16 tooth front sprocket as well. Love this bike ! 996DL
Only 106 It was 113 (air temp) on the way home today. Sitting in traffic and the radiant temp rose to 121 :eek1 Tank stickers sure look nice tho. Looks a lot better than a big blank blue blob.
Why do you say don't lower the pigs. I lowered mine and am very pleased with the change. Been that way for more than 2000 miles of dirt, gravel and pavement.
I'm going to try the drz400e levers on the dr to see what difference it makes, if it works I can have the shorty levers without cutting any balls. I also have the fcr39 from the drz see if that's gonna work. It might fit without making a special sleeve. Tried the DJ170 Mainjet in the bst and economy went. At first it felt like it had some more power but when I switched back to the DJ160 It was hard to tell the difference. gsxr and airboxmod+djkit
Why not lower the pegs? Mine were lowered by the PO , cut and weld , no bolt on adapters! They work great for me , I have rode my Brother in laws bike , stock dr , and my legs cramp up.
Yep. 21,000km with lowered footpegs now and loving them. Fallen trees, rocks, kerbs. They've handled them all.
Thanks, 112 today in Redding. Any thing over 100 is too much. When we were kids we couldn't wait for the summer with the swimming and water skiing. But we get older and have to work and the summers aren't so special anymore. I'm getting to be a 65 degree man more and more.
Well, I think I'll say something good about our dealer in our area. All the parts guys ride bikes and have for many years. They're all relatively young and are very helpful. If they don't know the answer, they will find out for you and get back to you. I have personally gotten free items because I visit them often and have even taken some smoked salmon I caught. I use the internet to purchase DR stuff but I also go see the dealer when I'm in the area.
ugh well I just dropped it going from tar to a dry dirt carpack... embarrassing. Rear brake lever has bent right up against the case but shouldn't be hard to fix. It looks like the bar is bent, though it seems the front of the bike is misaligned...the light and mudguard are off at an angle compared to the front wheel. Anyone know what that might be?
I got it last winter and it is the right tank. Been riding with it for awhile. Looks good, but I could do without the Acerbis label on it in blue. Works good but since it does not use any rubber mounting you do not want to grip the tank with your knees. Vibrates like hell on the highway. I don't do that so it don't bother me.
But Acerbis did make a 4.0 and I have one. Read that it may not fit the 2000 and up? Seat was changed a bit but I thought that was in 02. Anyways they made it in the past and I have one and I like it.
Has anyone had good success with the Pro taper hand guards in conjunction with the 7/8 protaper bars? They seem to be "cheaper" ($45) than other hand guards. Just wanted to make sure they hold up.
I bought my DR it had the ugly purple on it but had a plastic tank (white) and a Corbin seat. I redone the whole bike and switched the plastic to black and frame to silver. I used the stock black tank and went to put the coRbin seat back on and have a 1" gap between the top of the seat and the tank. I was told that the tank was a clark but cannot find any identifying marks on it. I thought that the corbin and clark tank were the same as stock tank. The corbin just says DR650 on the pan. Any help would be great.
Corbin makes 2 seats cause they suck as a company and won't make a one-size fits all. One is for the IMS and the other is for stock. You can modify the mounts to make it fit a little closer.
Procycle has your pegs 1 3/4" lower than stock, and make a world of difference. "http://www.procycle.us/bikepages/dr650.html" Taller bars and your all set. I'm still looking for the perfect tall (comfortable) seat. Let me know if you find it.
Has anyone used the Pat Walsh Designs Skidplate? If so, any feedback? Does this plate need to be modified at the back like some of the other skidplates?
