I only have the cash to redo the valving and springs on one or the other right now. Should I do the forks first or rear shock? ? Does it matter?. Doing both isn't an option right now. I am hoping I will be able to afford the rest in a couple months.
Forks fersher. Scrape together a few bucks for the correct rear spring (if required), and you'll be 98% there.
I am getting the springs Monday. I assumed forks was the correct answer but wanted to be sure. I am a fat ass so I gotta go big!
In order for the springs to work properly you need a revalve also. I too am a big boy, re-spring, and revalve by a pro and it is night and day difference.
I disagree. You need to start off right with the proper spring rate. The stock valves might work just fine with the new spring rate. I am not racing it. I am a recreational rider.
FORKS! I had mine done by Superplush (springs and valves), like many others. With the stock stuff I was constantly bashing the skidplate and it was much more squirrely in sand. It's like a whole new bike now!
Forks. Did springs first and the revalve still made a big difference. Depending on how heavy you go you may need to modify the guides as the Id of the springs shrinks with increasing wt.
I have read many forums about which spring rate I should get. But, is there a spring rate calculator or chart for the big girl? Couldn't find one by google search.
I disagree with your disagreement . If you only go up one size on the springs you will be probably be ok. The bike suffers from being way under sprung with .48s and suffers from a complete lack of compression dampening for any type of aggressive off road riding. The Racetech calculator recommended .69s which are going in with a new valve kit. It's your bike do what you want, you obviously identified its under sprung so it seems you are a fairly competent rider. IMO it would be a waste of time and energy to not address both since you're going through them. Good luck.
