So Guys, I live in Vietnam and we have little choice of bikes apart from the mighty Cub or later derivatives. Imagine when I was offered a GN250! Seized and unloved... project time! Here is the result so far. [/IMG] I want to adjust the 'angle' of the bike, I hate the chopper look. I dropped the forks through the yokes as you can see but it still sits nose high. Longer rear shocks maybe?
Yeah, that is a good looking little bike. Nice lines. What kind of shocks are those? They look pretty trick.
I'm trying! Vietnam is a wonderful country to live in but the mechanics are all 'hammers and arc-welders'. I'm trying to build a nice street bike with little resources, no dealer assistance and a serious lack of friendly engineering shops. Of course, it is my fault that I don't speak the language. I rebuilt the 'seized' engine without trauma. The starter clutch had separated itself from the flywheel. Some new cap bolts and loctite and it was a runner. The seat I had made locally at a cost of $20. The shocks are crap Chinese, but they look good. The bars are thickwall aluminium, perhaps Renthal or copy. i had the front brake pads REBONDED for less than $2, needs must :eek1
I've seen some nice small headlights for sale. What do you think, change the headlight for a smaller one, maybe ditch the clocks and idiot lights and clean up the front end?
I would ditch the clocks but keep the large headlight One thing i've done with my SR was changing the handlebars to clip-ons and changed the front 19" rim for a 18" one and it handled and looked much better Good luck
Great job Pete! I also have a GN250 ('82 model), here in California they are fairly uncommon too. Actually searching for parts led me to New Zealand through the regional forums here on ADV. Apparently these 250 Suzukis and a few variations on the same theme are quite popular there. Maybe look into different models and parts interchangabillity for your project... Keep up the good work!
