Speaking of tires. I did the Berkshire Big Adventure as shakedown ride and after the 100 miles of superslabbing it to the start and than some slab during the ride I noticed the front Michelin Desert Rally started cupping a little. I'm putting a fresh Dunlop 908 on the rear tomorrow and I have brand new 908 front.
Do you have any experience with that Desert Rally taking long distances on gravel? Obviously slab is not working great on them.
I've heard that 908 front is not a best option so what do you think. Fresh 908 or 75% worn Desert Rally?

Or... Shit not much time left for ors:huh

    EDIT:

    Nevermind...

Been enjoying following along, even though I missed the cutoff.

Up until I saw p_funks post.

I'm now reading as a upcoming participant.

    Thank you P_funk

Very excited for the opportunity to see a new region, meet some new people. Can't freakin believe it. :dllama

Of course mixed in with the excitement, I'm now in "holy shit, I have to get ready while getting ahead at work"
I've seen oil discussed, ton of tire discussion...I now have my own over asked/discussed question

What are people using for Topo maps on their gps? :hide

I have a montana and was just going to get one off of garmins site. Is there a better alternative?

Looking at the last GPX, I see the distance between Ultimar gas in track 1A to "Gas and Food" near hwy 511 and 508 on track 1b, is 345km.

    Am I missing something?

You'll travel threw a town called Shawville (Quebec / Ontario border) that has fuel. Then threw a town called Almonte that also has fuel.

    No worries :thumb

On the Saturday morning fill up in Calabogie. The gas station in Calabogie serves breakfast and is the last fuel stop and food on the Saturday route until near the Sat night campground. A short detour to highway 61 will get you to a gas station mid route on Saturday (where route hits highway 61, head north for a few km's).

There is new management at the restaurant at Munfords. We couldn't get served last week because if a brunch thing they had on. However the gas station part still has sandwiches and you can get breakfast at Polly's Little Shanty if the new 'blue onion' fails.

Munford's in Calabogie has leased their restaurant so things are a little different there now.

When we stopped there on Mothers Day they let us get in and all our gear off before they came over to tell us we wouldn't be served for 1/2 an hour. So we left.

Fortunately you can still buy sandwiches at the gas bar. Or go to Polly's Little Shanty for breakfast instead.

I took on a last minute, emergency project for a good client this morning, so unfortunately I am not going to make the RREE.

So, if there is anyone interested in taking my spot, let me know - reid at rdalland.com

I pre-rode the RRee route from Ottawa to the Buckingham campsite today. Good news - the road was dry with no low hanging branches or roadkill to impede your progress. Lots of gas available enroute, and you pass some sort of beer warehouse where you can buy beer by the skid. Just a bunch of Harley riders on the road. I predict that Thursday's ride should be trouble free for everyone. Top up fuel in Ottawa and save a good 40 cents a gallon.

I'm a late-joining participant in search of a team to join. Anyone got a spot (or mind a hanger-on) for a big bike riding dude? I married a born-and-bred Quebecois chick, but my French language skills stop at "Tourne à gauche", "Tourne à droite", and "C'est l'heure de changer ton couche". Therefore I won't be able to bail out an Anglophone team out when we meet Antoine the Cinquante-swilling, chain-smoking, Parti Quebecois-supporting lumberjack out in the middle of the wilderness.

So if you're a member short on your team, just PM me.

Unfortunately. Not sure how did that happen, but it did. No leaks though
(at 1st service maybe?? There's this pretty "complicated" (easy to screw up) procedure to re-torque these at 600 mile service.., but that was 60K miles ago:huh)
    Anyway, It's ALIVE!

This might be a dumb question but for those with soft panniers or over bags how do you secure your oil? I am not sure where i should put my spare quart where it wont leak or puncture. also is there an supply on route at all?

I would assume you may find the odd quart/litre of generic oil where there is gas, but probably not the oil you need.
