Ok! I'm sure this has been covered here before but, I can't find a thing... I am redoing a 1983 Honda Cr 480r. I have been out of the game some 40 years until a wild hair on the south side of the belt line bit. I have no idea what is the best 2 stroke oil to use once I finish this project and want to fire it up. Should I use a caster oil like Blenzall or some of the new synthetic type oils? I am really kind of at a loss here..
Uh oh, a 'what is the best oil' thread Personally I use Maxima927 in my bigbore hondas, its a catstor/synthetic blend so you get the best of both worlds. TONS of debate can be had on the topic, but as long as you are giving the crank and cylinder the lubrication it needs, go have fun! I just finish restoring my 1980 PE400, and used the same oil and 44:1 mix as I do on my modern 2 smokers...Motul 800 2T. And for gear oil I used Bel Ray 75 weight gear saver...again same as I use on my medern 2 smoker. http://www.motul.com/us/en-US/products/45?f[engine_type]=22&f[range]=21
Motul or the Maxima stuff will work fine. For road racing, I used 18:1. For part throttle, on-off the gas, no long sustained high rpms, you should be fine with something higher. Don't go crazy at 50:1. It's an old bike, it needs lube. Try 32:1 and jet for it.
927 stinks but works good, maxima super M has been good to me as well. Blendzall smells good!!! Tractor Hydro in the tranny, best stuff on earth, no clutch fade and no stink on weekly removal.
