I think around here in the PNW between Tasky's and Skagit Power Sports you're covered. I'm buying an older EC 200.
I don't think they're better than KTM but they're not orange! :lol3 Dare to be different. :D

I have a 2010 husky 250 WR. Love the light weight and snappy power. Sold my KTM 450 exc after the Husky spoiled me.
If your hooked on a 300 check out the Husky. There are some great deals out there on them.

I'd pick the llghtest one, unless you are want performance weighted toward dual sport, then go four stroke. I've got a 390 and took a short ride on a 350. The 390 seems "quicker" handling to me, which translates to easy handling in tight stuff. I think in reality it carries its weight a bit higher, which makes it a handful when you start to lose it.

Both the four strokes are a pain to pick up when they are down, and over a day of riding tight stuff, a good bit more of a work out. Now, you might not fall over, which makes that point moot. Picking the silly things up is an issue for me, though. The extra pounds in tight stuff are always there, whether you fall or not.

    Mike,

I can't believe somebody hasn't already pointed out the obvious - does it really really matter? You are just gonna ride it a couple of times and then move on.....:rofl

I would decide on 2st or 4st first. Once you have that decided, I would buy the best one you can find within your budget. I don't think you would go wrong with any of the bikes listed.

Not sure if you're going new or used, but there's a couple decent used KTM 300's on craigslist at decent prices right now.

Normal? I guess that all depends. If you have Vehicular ADD, it probably is. :D

Maybe more test rides or better feel for what you are really looking for?

    This was way too easy!

When it comes to dirt bikes I don't get the point of a 4 stroke when it only takes 2 to get the job done. :dunno So to that I'd say either 300 will do. :D

You paying an attorney by the hour to put that deal together? You been working on that one for a long time!

And, yeah, GoFasters has been awesome to work with re: GG parts. Plus you get to hang a poster of LuLu Puy and Liai Sanz in your garage. Go Gas Gas!

I bought my 09 wr300 from Taskys. 2 years later and 2000 ish miles later still on its original piston with same compression. Doesnt miss a beat and never left me anywhere, easy as pie to work on, cheap. The harder I beat it up the stronger it seems to run.
Oh and it came with a plate. :evil
