Mark and I have talked about it and decided to put on the ride this year. I'll be doing the route, while Mark will lend a hand.

So far I like the idea of a cloverleaf style ride, and I'm looking at the Kamloops area for a base.

If anyone has any suggestions of any kind feel free to PM me.

Also if this ride isn't enough for you, fellow rider Fishnbiker is trying to get together some side rides so that you can get more gravel roads from the Island to Kamloops before the ride. Check out his thread at:

    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21055371#post21055371

Also I will be doing an off-road class at the HU Meet in Nakusp

    Top Q & A

    Q: What does this cost?
A: The ride is free, you just have to pay your own way in food and lodgings. I will try to set it up so that both hotels and camping are close by.

Q: What kind of ride is this?
A: It's best compared to a herd of cats. You get a map, route sheet and GPS track. You go when and with whom you want to go with. I might even make a rally-raid style routebook for giggles.

Q: How hard is the ride?
A: Hard is a relative term. This ride is aimed at bigger adventure bikes and relatively inexperienced riders. I ride a V-Strom but I have off-road racing experience so I find a lot of stuff easy. If I get lucky I may throw in some easy/hard splits so I can appease some of the more hardcore riders. Basically this ride is meant to be fun. The main focus of the ride is to use the ability of the big bikes to eat miles on easier roads.

    Q: Which hotels are preferred?
A: Any. I can't seem to get anything in regards to a group rate on the hotels, but any of the hotels on Rodgers Pl. would be a good idea. (Near Trans Canada and Hwy 5A). This ranges from a Days Inn, Quality Inn, Pacific Inn, Comfort Inn, and a Four Points Sheraton if you want to feel luxurious. I can get a group rate for tenters at Knutsford Campsite 10km south of Kamloops.

Also don't worry if you're a noob. I'm not going to do a training class, but if you want you can tag along with me on a recon ride and I can give you some pointers.

Any other questions, please feel free to ask.

And here are some videos from the recon rides just give you an idea of what the ride will be like.

    Maps

Day One Route: Kamloops - Chase - Clearwater - Barriere - Kamloops

This is composed of three sections:

    1.) Kamloops to Chase: 60.92km
    2.) Chase to Clearwater: 181.77km
    3.) Clearwater to Kamloops 161.20km
    Total: 404.89

The Start of Day One's ride will be at the T'Kemlups Petro-Canada. It's the first right off of Hwy 5N.

The third section does pass through Barriere at the 65km mark for those riders running smaller tank

Day Two Route: Kamloops - Savona - Ashcroft - Logan Lake - Kamloops

    This route has four sections:
    1.) Kamloops to Savona: 104.7km
    2.) Savona to Ashcroft: 55.4km
3.) Ashcroft to Logan Lake: 78.1km
4.) Logan Lake to Kamloops: 51.5km
    Total: 289.7km

The start of Day Two will be at the Holden Ave. Esso, which is the second left on Hwy 5N.

    Day Three Route: Kamloops

This is a short section. It's meant to be a cool little wind down and still give riders time to get home. Sleep in and have a good breakfast.

    1.) Kamloops: 41.9km

The start of Day Three will be at the Shell on Trans-Canada, east of Kamloops. Right next to the first Timmies.

    GPS Tracks:

    Day One - Tracks
    Day One - Route

    Day Two - Tracks
    Day Two - Route

    Day Three - Tracks
    Day Three - Route

Sorry for the duplication, I'm not sure what works in the GPS. Personally I don't like them and think they run on LSD. So if any of the wiser (not smart-@$$) inmates could educate, I would be grateful.
Also it looks like my GPS has been passing the joint around since now my Mac has gone stupid. Download the file with the .txt or .html extension and then manually remove it in Finder or Explorer.

The more I play with my computer the better I can appreciate the simplicity of my Ural.

    Routebooks:

    Day One:
    Stage 1: Kamloops to Chase
    Stage 2: Chase to Clearwater
    Stage 3: Clearwater to Kamloops

    Day Two:
    Stage 1: Kamloops to Savona
    Stage 2: Savona to Ashcroft
Stage 3: Ashcroft to Logan Lake
Stage 4: Logan Lake to Kamloops

    Day Three:
    Stage 1: Kamloops

Sorry but I don't have the routebooks for Day One, Stages 1 and 2 done since I lost my route notes in a thunderstorm. If anyone wants to ride to Clearwater and get me some distances, I would appreciate it.

    Mike

I really like the idea of a cloverleaf from Kamloops.
There is lots of good riding around there.

I would love to join in on the fun. I missed last year and don't want to miss again

Why have a Dual Sport if it never gets driven off road?

    Just seems too busy!

Thanks for the heads up, Prime. But don't worry us, lower mainland riders are used to riding in a zoo. I avoid Greyhounds, Mustangs, Rabbits, and even the odd Viper when riding downtown.

And as far as a preferred motel, I prefer one with a bed. I will get a little more specific later. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear it, also I would like to find a good private campsite where us poor tenters can leave our tents set up for the weekend in a safe and secure location.

    Sounds fantastic. I'm interested.
Just got equipped with a V-strom myself, and getting some knobby tires this weekend. Looking forward to some rides like this.

I have opened up another thread for those interested in making a larger adventure out of this well planned event. The main idea is to keep this thread on focus, but allow those wanting a longer event to meet up with like minded. You could leave a reminder here of new ideas on the Side Ride thread.

    See http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21055371#post21055371

Those wanting to offer ideas & meet up can use this chat without overloading the primary page. Registations & overall planning to be on the original site: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=871033

First side ride on the side list is a leg from Horseshoe Bay into Goldbridge to explore there a couple of days. Fishing is also part of my interest if anyone else cares to consider it. Some of us will be coming from Vancouver Island & this locale has proven a good option to meet up. So far from the Island, intertested partners are:
