Hi, Folks I just finished reading the entire thread and a big thanks to everybody for all the great info! I'm in the process of removing the valve cover and tranny vent from the carb and routing to the top of the frame and have read were there is and inline filter or vent? Can someone clear this up, a pic or part # would be great. Thanks in advance for your help RH
From what I've been told the XCR-W never came with smogg equipment which is why I had to get it titled and etc. so did it just come from factory not connected? Anyway so that hose really has no importance at all except if I hook up the coolant recovery kit? I'm unsure if I ordered the Moose Racing or C.R.T. coolant recovery kit and KTMcyclehut has proved me right once again that they are the slowest site ever to order from......If only Motorcyclesuperstore.com carried all parts for KTM's.
A friend swears by Munn Racing for all his KTM parts,they have it in stock and they ship quick,thats what Ive heard but havent tried em yet myself.
Many people leave those vents just as they are from the factory,mine seems to have no problem with stock hose routing. On my DR650 I stuck the mini filter on the crankcase vent,looks like a little K&N filter.
I ordered mine directly from RLR Products. rlrproducts dot com, the maker of that particluar kit. It arrived quickly. KTMcyclehut has taken awhile to get before, too.

My 09 530 with 140hrs started using 2 to 3oz every 2 to 3 hrs of hard riding. I decided it was time for rings and valve stem seals. The only thing found on tear down was some buildup on piston under intake valves, the seals on these seemed a little loose. Would this be an indication that my intake seals where infact leaking? This is my first time this far into a motor, so bear with me. Heres what the intake valves looked like. What's the best method for cleaning the valves and head. I'm guessing I need to stay away from anything abrasive. Do I need to do anything special when installing my new rings a far as oiling rings and cylinder wall. I'm also looking for break-in advice, I've read a little about the Motoman procedure. Thanks for your help
Maybe soaking the valves in some sort of super cleaner would soften the buildup. That looks about normal I think for an engine with those hours on it. Ned may chime in and he knows whole bunches more then most of us about these engines. (2 to 3 oz's isnt much) Happy New Years! This has been a very helpful thread for us newish 530 owners.
We use a parts washer, and don't get abrasive. Soak, wipe and scrub (nothing harder than scotchbrite) and repeat. If you're worried about what you're doing to clean, don't do it, it'll look pretty similar to how it does now an hour after it goes together. Right on for digging in and getting it done.
I use a Harbor Freight Ultrasonic cleaner filled with Simple Green. You have to run it through quite a few cycles over a day or so but the valves will eventually come out looking like new with no need to scrub them with anything. You can get the cleaner on sale quite often, look for their coupons online. Valves after 200 hrs And after a bath in the Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner. You don't want to use a wire brush since you can damage the factory applied coating on the valves, the ultrasonic cleaner does a great job and no touching/scrubbing necessary. Hodakaguy

My wife has an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner I've used for small parts a couple of times. I just make sure she's going to be out for a while....
+ 1 on the helpful thread, now seeing those valves and piston would it be wise to use some of those gas additives that decarbon engines before tearing the top down? as a preventive action
I need an ultra-sonic cleaner as well,I used to use them all the time when I was a dental tech, They get the tiniest pieces out of the smallest crevices much easier. Some shops have em big enough to clean a bank of carbs in,best way to clean carbs from what Ive heard.
Yep the same HF ultrasonic cleaner with simple green as the solution works great on carbs! They come out looking like brand new! Hodakaguy
