You can ride the subway and get closer if it is really cold. IIRC it is like 4 blocks to walk from the station closest to the JJC, it is not far at all. Last time we did it there was some work going on on one of the lines so we had to go south and take another subway train back up. But usually it is quicker than that. Sorry, do not recall the line. Maps at the station are good, so follow the maze to where they tell you and give her some real culture. The kids always freak out Mom with their stories when we get back.

Fire codes, don't want them blocking egresses if they have to clear the place. There is usually more than just the M/C show going on at the same time too. It is a safety thing.

I've gone for the last couple of years and I'm planning to go again. Mostly, I just like to sit on all the bikes :-) I take the subway down and walk. I notice more adventure gear over the years.

On the odd chance that I ride to the show, is there bike parking nearby? Did Javitts move the free bike parking, or just eliminate it?

We go every two or three years. Take the train then walk over. Hit a bar of two on the way. Then a bar or two after. Maybe dinner and another bar before the train ride back to New Haven. Good enough for a nap and a lower BAC.

people have been complaining that you can't park on the sidewalk anymore, but there is plenty of parking on street within a block.

Here's an example from a couple years ago.

Last year I parked right on the corner with 20 other bikes. There will be other bikes including mine and they will be parked somewhere very close.

I plan to be there with my wife and two son's on Saturday. My son lives across the Hudson so he will guide us in by train. Last year was my first year, looking forward to seeing it again.

Only problem with that picture is that is a no parking zone if I remember correctly. Safety in numbers? Sure, until the city decides to blitz the area and all bets are off. Not worth the risk of towing to me.

Sounds like I'll be I should be able to make it w/ my son.

U can find street parking south of Javits. Try 29th, 28th streets. I've parked here in years past w/out a problem.

But the city changes its parking rules almost yearly, thus YMMV

Any Saturday night gathering this year?

Last year it snowed on Saturday and it was still crowded. This year I'm taking off Friday and going at 12 when it opens.

Just jumping on this a bit:

To play devil's advocate: They don't let cars park for the CAR show. :deal

That being said, according to primospot.com there is legal parking on 12th ave (aka, West Side Highway) south of 33rd street.

You could also try the raised sidewalk area just south of 36th street on Dyer Ave (Lat/Long: 40.754980, -73.996729). This isn't legal, but it is a popular commuter spot.

Finally, I just left a phone message with NYPD 10th Precinct Community Affairs: 212-741-8226

I explained that I am coming into town for the International Motorcycle Show, and I wanted to know if there were any provisions for motorcycle-only parking in the vicinity of the Convention Center. I urge anyone who is interested to leave a similar message. I will post their response (if any) when I get it.

I have to work the show Friday, and Saturday (and maybe Sunday) so it is craptastic that there isn't easy parking. But, thems the f&*^ing breaks in NYC. :bluduh
