    on the new arrival.

I trust all is ok with Mom.

Cherish every moment, love him with all your heart, give him encouragement and instill a spirit of inquisitiveness in him.

You are now on the biggest adventure of all.

As someone with a 5 year old girl and a 2 year oldboy, I don't know whether to offer congratulations or condolences:lol3-just kidding. Welcome aboard the greatest adventure of your life, seriously!

Don't let anyone tell you that it's time to hang up the helmet for good; I ride more now than before my kids were born (stress relief, eh?).

PS, I'm with you on the planning the kid's first 50. I got my daughter riding a bicycle this summer so that we can build up enough skill to go for it in the spring, hopefully.:deal

Thanks again everyone. We appreciate all the kind words.

Glad you guys like the name. I knew the bike guys would all get it..and you do, including my riding buddies on FB.

We had some names picked out..and did not want any of the generics. I certainly did not wanna name my child Doug Jr. :D We also did not want to have name that was popular, or a piece of fruit, and anything that could be easily turned into a burn by other kids growing up, ie Tag ( the fag)....or anything like that.

One day a couple months ago, after we knew it he was gonna be a boy, we had a name or two picked out. Then, we were sitting there, and my wife asked what I thought about the name Ryder. I immediately thought it was perfect.

From the time I could ride a bicycle, I was on two wheels. I went from riding BMX and freestyle bikes, riding ramps and tricking, to mountain bikes and ten speeds. I even raced mountain bikes(amateur) for a season or so. Since I had to buy things for myself as a young man, I got my first motorcycle at age 19,and have been riding ever since, 20 years or so. I have done sport touring, track days, and as of the last couple years gotten in dirt, dual sporting, woods riding and hare scrambles. The long and short of all that is, Daddy is a Rider, so it just clicked that my boy would be a "Ryder".

Have a great holiday season, and ride safe guys. Black ice season is upon us.

And no worries Sallydog, I'll still be out riding and tagging...just on a little hiatus for now. :lol3

1st two children, the hiatus was 10 years. 2nd two another 10 years. Goes by very quickly! Lots of landmarks, school assemblies, plays, soccer games, etc. Parenting can be the most rewarding and challenging thing you ever do in your life.

Congratulations! The baby is absolutely beautiful. Must look like Mom!

Thanks Steve and Doc...much appreciated..and everyone else too. Yesterday, I had one of those moments, and not sure if I ever had one so impactful,....but one of those moments where you realize life will never be the same..and for the better.

And Steve..that shot is funny, cause I have Gaerne offroad boots too..but my baby boy aint going in those dirty, smelly things anytime soon. :D
