Hero Honda Diesel 400 wish it was sold here .

You never heard of them mosly like but they are one of idia's top bike makers that use to of have a partnership with honda. There coming out with a 400 cc Diesel for about 3 grand. Not a show stopper of a bike but hay it would do for around town. Just another bike and scooter we never see sold over here. Happens far to often.

that comes out to under $3k USD... bout another $1k for importation... maybe i should buy one?

So, aboot 120mpg. Don't see an enclosed chain very often.
Prolly a good idea in India. Red wheels remind me of a 90's Ninja.
Think a dual sport setup like an XT250 would be a good idea.
It's a shame diesel is 60 cents a gallon more than regular around here.
Especially when 650cc sized bikes like the G650GS and NC700X get 70-80mpg
and do 13 sec 1/4 miles. Lots of scooters are approaching 120mpg, too
Like cars and trucks, diesel bikes are going to benefit from turbos to get good performance.

I bet its noisy! If proven reliable, and they brought it to the States. I would buy one.

I want that.

With that kind of fuel mileage, it would make a great bike for commuting. Especially if the engine is as torquey as the Diesel cars I've driven.

But it will probably never make it to North America, especially considering how the environmentalists are hating Diesels.

My CBR125R gets around 100 mpg and my NC700X has had various people get 90 mpg when they wanted to!

Hero Honda's are stout machines and it comes with a sari guard standard.

Add a second cylinder, and a turbo...

fun fact: early in 2012, Hero and Honda dissolved their joint venture, and Hero is out on its own. since they didn't have the Honda engineers anymore, they contracted with Erik Buell Racing to do some of their design and engineering work.

I don't understand why people get a hard-on for diesel bikes. As stated previously, a single cylinder, 400cc diesel will put out 10hp....not 30. There are quite a few motorcycles and tons of scooters sold in the US that get more than 70mpg. Diesel costs more than gas in most parts of the US. If you've ever actually owned a diesel engine powered vehicle...then you know the starter motor and battery needs to be relatively ginormous....and those two components are the heaviest by volume of any part on an engine. Lastly...have fun trying to kickstart an engine with 20:1 compression.

And that 30bhp is prolly 15bhp at the rear wheel.

I don't like to piss on anyone's parade, but I just don't see the point at all. Maybe I'm weird, IDK, but I ride primarily for the simple joy of it. It's my passion and I see nothing here to inspire remote interest, let alone, passion. There are a ton of enjoyable and very capable bikes that get 40-50mpg all day long, and a good number that do even better. Why anyone would want to spend their riding time on a turd just to save 20 bucks a week in fuel is beyond me.

Maybe because in India, where this bike is built and marketed the price differential between "petrol" (gasoline) and diesel is 44%, diesel being less expensive. (September 2012 prices, city of Mumbai: 77 rs for 1L for petrol vs 43 rs for 1L diesel) Now it does it start to make sense?

dont know as I would want to own one, but I would love to test ride one just to find out what it was like.

Also, in India typical urban riding conditions are stop and crawl, with occasional congested spurts up to 30 mph. That seems to be appropriate for a diesel engine.
