When I say 'looking at the claims', I guess, performance wise it's already been well proved now. Pikes Peak + IoM......now we just need the practicalities sorted. Charging facilities, initial cost, maintenance, etc.. Oh yeah, and maybe a soundtrack option.
That would be pretty cool. 1. should be able to turn on/off and adjust volume. 2. maybe a bluetooth option so only the rider hears it in helmet speakers? 3. pick your sound, like a video game: v-twin, v-8, or v-12.
Congratulations! That was a great race and a great effort. Nice to hear the riders comments about the bikes - they loved racing them! Coverage of the TT on Velocity network has been great!
BMS was made in house. The students designed the PCBs and did all of the soldering of the components. Batteries are from AE Energy,, 40 amp hours, 2s2p. FYI, I am a tool maker so all this electric stuff is foreign to me! P.S. Thanks for your interest. These folks have busted their collective butts to get where they are today. It is nice to know people care.
We do hope to return in 2015 with a whole new drive train. We have been talking to some folks while at the Isle so we will see what that leads to. Our biggest obstacle is funding. It is very expensive to ship the bike from the US. But we have so much fun at the TT that we are going to do all we can to get back! Thanks again for following our progress!
thanks .. who would be the technical person for batteries? that is if they are willing to share technical details? in terms of energy density lithium cobalt has the advantage. but for LiFePO4 that advantage starts to go away with larger cells. LiFePO4 has huge advantages for safety and number of cycles a battery will deliver before it's starts to degrade. as you know LiFePO4 for motorcycles has been widely adopted all over the world. but not without a butt load of problems for early adopters. the good news is .. yes it's quite possible to achieve a reliable LiFePO4 install on most any motorcycle.
How much would it cost to throw a ADV sticker on your ride? I'm sure other FFs on this site would kick in a few bucks. Let's start a new thread- Kickstarter Campign for a ADV Buckeye Current NOW!!!!!
That's a great idea! We should set goals - the more funding raised, the bigger the logo (one for each side, of course). Let us know if OSU would permit this. I am certain that if the school is behind it, we could even make the donations tax-deductible.
Cy, You contact The following fols to get technical answers: Aaron Bonnell-Kangas bonnell-kangas.3@buckeyemail.osu.edu Nathan Lord lord.59@osu.edu Please note both are in Liverpool at a tech show displaying the bike and may not be monitoring emails as usual. We have been very open about what we use and how we do it as we aren't trying to market anything.
I don't know. I will ask and let you know what they say. BTW, the team does have a donations like that is approved by the university and you should get a receipt for tax purposes. I will verify that as well.
That would be absolutely cool, even if the tax thing didn't work out. A bunch of crusty advriders helping to advance a high tech e-bike in the most incredible race on the planet. I'm in! I think this style has a bit of "electricity" to it:
Here's an update on donating to the team: Hi Bill, I think we'd definitely be interested in setting up something for the good folks at ADVrider. It sounds like a great way to get some fans involved, and we'd be proud to show their logo on the RW3. I'm fairly confident that we can accomplish this through the iGive system. Donations there are tax deductible, and everyone does receive a payment confirmation that can be used as a tax receipt. The only thing we're missing on iGive right now is a good way to categorize the people who donate. We'd want to track the amount of people donating from ADVrider to make sure they get their rewards. I'll give the University a call tomorrow and see what they can do.
Great interviews with Brandon Cretu and Mark Miller regarding the EBR effort at Motopod: http://www.motopodcast.com Brandon's on episode #409 starting at 00:39:00. Mark is on episode #410 starting at 01:43:54. Cretu is enthusiastic and Miller is VERY enthusiastic about the EBR.
So we are still waiting for answers from the university. Hi Bill, I wanted to let you know that I am still following up on your suggestions regarding fundraising for ADVrider. I have spoken with a few people at COE and they seem very eager to help us set something up. The downside to this is that things at the college level are always moving quite slowly. I don't think we'll have anything in place soon, but I definitely see us having something set up for our online fans to help "kickstart" the RW3. As much as I hate to miss out on the upswing in our popularity following the IOM, I think rolling this out in a month or two makes a lot of sense. Once we get our goals in place and produce a compelling design, I think we can reach out with a great argument that here's what we see the future of electric racing looking like, help us build and race this bike. I'm going to continue refining this idea in the next few weeks. Yours, Kyle Stewart
Sounds great. I think you should also start threads on other websites to maximize the college's efforts setting up the donation system. You may end up with a number of online forum logos, but I think that would be appropriate for a high tech racing team like yourselves. I'll keep checking back here to see when it is up and running.
Hate to rain on the parade, but while reading a ride report where someone asked for donations to keep their ride going, one of the mods chimed in and said that Baldy and the Powers that be do not allow for solicitation of funds for rides or projects like this. I pm'd GadgetBoy directly and shared what I had proposed. He stated the following: If you posted a link to another website that had a donation fund link there, I would contribute. But we can't solicit funds here. Sorry!
