The first priority in selecting an area, was to find access where many have not riden. Also was the challenge to find great....."A", "B" and "C" riding options:

"A" - Challenging Jeep Trails & Single Track
"B" - Moderate/Mild, Fire Roads and easy Jeep trails
"C" - Mostly Mountain Pavement Twisties...maybe some easy, maintained dirt road

Make no mistake about it, I am shouldering the responsibilities and the planning, but I have two riding friends that are long time Colorado residents and have riden about everything (yes they are ADV'ers). I am looking to them to help me find the best 'base camp' to accomidate us and provide all the riding we want.

    My requests are simple.

    1. Tent/Cabin accomidations
    2. Public Showers and Restrooms
    3. A cook area and place for the group to meet in the evenings
    4. Quick access to dirt

I am looking for something different from year's past. I rode Lake City and Buena Vista. While those areas are some of the best in the West, we are looking for something else, something new, something different. Adventure Riding is what it is about for me and I want three days of Single Track, Fire Roads and Jeep Trails that I have not done in the past.

If you have a suggestion, I am all ears.......... Once my buddies pass on their research and I consider any suggestions, I will start making calls and negotiating. I will find us the best location and the best deal.

I will keep everyone posted. I suspect we will have the location and the campground nailed down inside 30-60 days so you can start making your reservations.

More detailed plans will come later............

I was already thinking about a packet that each attendee will recieve upon arrival, which would include area Topo Maps with routes highlighted for possible rides.

At events like this there are always ride leaders, that head off on various routes.

But sure, there will be those that want to ride....

    1. Just pavement twisties
    2. A mix of pavement and maintained dirt roads
    3. Fire Roads
    4. Double/Single Track and Jeep Trails

.....and I am sure that everyone will have a chance to ride exactly what they want and what they feel comfortable with.

I'm planning on WestFest, as well as the Montana 1000X before it....

I'd be up for this as well, even if I can only make it a weekend thing because I've burned my PTO the following week up north :bluduh :D

I'm in, although I don't think I'd be much help planning, don't know the areas well enough. The Silverton/Ouray area would be pretty cool, though....

Alright, after pouring over maps and maps and maps.....and ride reports.....

    An Area is Chosen!!!!!

    South Fork, Colorado!!!!!!

Note: Now the search begins for a campground which is motorcycle friendly, will accomidate us and have reasonable pricing. I will keep you posted on this search, but if you have some suggestions in the South Fork area....PM me.

Here is the overall riding area....

Here is one of the best 'pavement' riding loops in North America. 380 miles of phenomenal sights, diversity and twisties!!!!!

South Fork to Pagosa Springs to Durango to Ouray to Montrose to Lake City to Creede to South Fork.....and at several points, if one wants high mountain passes and some mild to medium to advanced dirt....you can detour.

Here is the dirt riding to the North of South Fork.

Here is the dirt riding to the south of South Fork.
