Well if they don't announce the dates how do we know who's in? I am planning on riding a Triumph . With the diabolical and Baja RALLY to both in spring I think Mike might be losing quite a few of the competitive bike racers. I know Norra is really into the vintage idea which is great but it would be a very sad thing for them to lose over 35 entries of more modern bikes that have raced the last few years. I just hope all the stars fall in alignment What a great spring it would be It would be a trifecta Diabolical rally , Baja rally 2 and Norra 1000
So, should they change the dates for the norra rally to accomodate the few that will race in the diabolical?
So it looks like we'll have the NORRA 1000 in mid-May; the Baja Rally being held May 21-25, and the Diabolical Rally held Apr 2-5. I'm going to have a tough decision on which to ride...
I'd love to do them all, but it simply won't work out from a "time away from work" perspective. But I'd love to do 2 of the 3. Probably will do the NORRA race (simply because my family likes to come down for the finish in Cabo and stay for a mini-vacation). So then it's between riding north and riding the Baja Rally, or taking some time off in-between and riding Diabolical. Whichever one doesn't happen for me in 2014 is the priority for 2015! It's great that so many of these events are starting to happen for us in North America. Thank heavens for Mexico that is so amenable to offroad racing!!
so has there been some sort of announcement that leads you to believe that the M1K is now running mid may instead of the beginning of may (end of april) as it has for the past 3 years?
The press release is going out now. But here is a little extra info. 2014 Mexican 1000 will be May 10-14. Ensenada to San Jose del Cabo. Motos get 5 days of racing, cars get 4. The Moto agenda is: Tech 7am Ensenada Sat May 10. Depart first time control in Ensenada 11am same day (Sat May 10). Run one or more special stages to get to El Rosario Sat night. El Rosario is a historic checkpoint of the original NORRA races at Mama Espinozas. Sunday motos run El Rosario to San Ignacio via LA Bay, 2 special stages, working on an ultra special stage that is very long, remote, and scenic - baja at it's best. San Ignacio is a really cool place to stay, a swim in the lagoon might feel good after the super long day. Monday motos run San Ignacio to Loreto but plan to add some technical stuff that the cars will skip to make the day a bit longer than it otherwise would be. That night in Loreto will be cars and bikes together first time since Ensenada. Tuesday bikes get a big head start to La Paz and cars do some extra miles to maintain the gap. Wed motos get a big gap to San Jose del Cabo. Goal is to never have cars/bikes on same track at same time and we are doing this with a combination of bike only trails, split schedules including different overnight stops, and time gaps. We will likely continue the new stuff we tried at the Mexican 500 including live tracking, full course radio coverage, and roll charts for those who use them. For the cars, they depart Ensenada Sunday May 11 to LA Bay, using the same route the motos did previous. Then the next day the cars do LA Bay to Loreto to catch up to the motos for a combined moto/car team fiesta that night. Still working details but we are excited to do something new. As always we are open to suggestions. We did move the date so guys have time to prep between rallys. I think I'm going to race the Diabolical in my cage. But I'm not going to miss the Mexican 1000 next year either - it's going to be a memorable event.
That sounds great Chris! Kudos to NORRA for the focus on rider safety!!! My only suggestion right now is to PLEASE indicate potential hazards in the roll charts. Looking forward to NORRA 2014...
The changes sound great. Should be cool having some technical bike-only stuff and most importantly separation between bikes and cars is a very good thing! Still trying to figure out my schedule for next year but certainly planning on doing one of diabolico, baja rally de motos or mexican 1000. Will probably come down to which one I can convince my boss that the timing doesn't affect our release schedule.
Good news ! Chris please do us a favor and start a Norra 1000 2014 thread so this one can go and live a happy ending!
Ok, I did start a new thread but unless someone makes it sticky (and de-stickys this one), I think this thread will continue to be the active one. Perhaps someone can contact a moderator for help?
