Any advice/comments? Only 350 miles on the clock (leftover 2013 1200GSA oil cooled), was decelerating in a curve, depressed clutch to downshift, and bike quit. Let out clutch and bike started right back up, was probably doing about 40mph in 4th gear. Called dealer and got the bad gas BS story, just filled up with Mobil that ride?????????
They all do that.. Or... Maybe somethin with clutch interlock switch?? Never heard of any myself with that..particular quirk.
Hey,freakie shit happens......document it and if it happens again in the next week or so,bring 'er back while still under warranty.
It's true. I think sometimes when you close the throttle the FI shuts all the fuel off. At over 40,000 miles my '09 has not done it lately. My Sertao does it once regularly before it gets up to temperature.
Nope...never in 68K+ miles!, has my bike ever shut itself off and or died from anything other than something I did. I also can't agree with "They all do that". What I have witnessed tho,...is when sitting at stop signs/lights (another bike and rider) and the idle goes low and quits,it could well be the sign of a bad coil. The coil replacement fixed the issue.
I also agree that "they all do that" is incorrect. I've owned 4 of them and none of them ever did it. I would suggest that it could be related to the clutch or neutral sensor. Sent from my SM-T210R using Tapatalk
Thanks for the info, I also do not think that "they all do that". Somewhat disappointed and concerned about reliability on a longer ride. Don't want to be left stranded. Dealer maintains that it is a fuel issue?....I also don't agree with that.
I think the "They all do that" was a joke. But I have the advantage of having ridden with VEGASGSA before so I'm familiar with his sick and twisted forum humor. "They all do that" is a common dealer response when they dont have another good excuse to sell you. Any chance your boot hit the sidestand and extended it far enough to kick in the kill mode. I've done that a few times while standing up bouncing around off the tarmac, and maybe once when I had Led Zeppelin cranked a little to loud in the earbuds.
Could the kickstand have come down and activated the switch that turns off the engine? I had this happen on a different bike once. Jon
Can you reproduce the anomaly? If so, you have warranty that will help. If not, you're gonna have to start switching out parts. If it persists, document it as suggested previously; temperature, speed, RPM, gear, phase of the moon, fuel used (source)...anything just so the dealer can't hide behind the "bad gas" excuse. Does you state have a lemon law? If so, study it in case the dealer cannot ID the cause and you want your money back.
Don't think it was the kickstand, will do some experimenting to see how far the kickstand has to move to kill the engine. During that same ride, I also experienced some hesitating and a cough or two after sitting at an idle for a moment. Wouldn't expect any of those running conditions from a fuel injected motor that was up to running temperature.
I had the same thing happen on my last GS. Riding along and suddenly, nothing. Then fired right back up. Once at night and lost headlight until I started it. Both times it started up while I was coasting. Turned out to be a loose ( though not obvious) positive battery cable. I went to charge the battery thinking that might be the problem when I noticed a slight amount of play in the cable connection to the battery. May not be your problem but easy to check. I'd check and test both positive and negative.
What year was your GS?? Did the problem persist after tightening the battery cables or changing the battery and tightening?? That would be mildly exciting, losing your lights at night??!!...especially at highway speeds......perhaps downshifting coming off the highway, ugh!!
A couple times a year mine does that..usually when the clutch gets pulled in and on the brakes at a stoplight.
2007 GS. Not a problem after I tightened the cables. That's now a part of my standard service when I change the oil or have the seat off. The fix was cheap, a little elbow grease. But the dry cleaning bill for my pants...
Is not GM dealing with an issue like this? Something about a 25 Million dollar fine? That alone should persuade folks it is not good. I would be taking it into the shop asap. Start bitching and keep a documentation about your efforts to resolve and any future issues should you need to seek lemon law status.
