We want to ride dirt in north Vietnam. Anybody have experience renting bikes and getting the mandatory guide? Want to go in next few weeks. Suggestions?

Those were great sites..appreciate it.... Found a couple of Minsk bikes to rent in Hanoi, and left on a moments notice to go get them...now in Tokyo waiting for the Vietnam airliner to whisk us over to Hanoi where the bikes await....going to ride North Vietnam, mostly up by the border with China....just winging the itinerary and roads...some dirt, some paved, but probably all good.... Man, can't wait to hear how your trip goes. So far, Vietnam is a big WOW! So unbelievably great!!!! Once out of Hanoi, there is nothing but great roads and no traffic on the roads. And the food and people are epic. Stuff your pockets full of candy for the village kids!!

. Hi, I don't agree you need a guide. We (me and her) hired 110cc Honda's each fro a month. Cost us $35 US each for the month. We rented in Hanoi, and took a ride out to Cat Ba Island in Ha Long Bay, ferry there, and ferry back. Then we did the ride to Saigon, over Hai Van pass. On arriving at Saigon, nearly a month later, we took our 2 bikes to the train station, and had them train freighted back to Hanoi, I think that cost about $30 each bike. We did the tours of Saigon, then also got the train back to Hanoi. If you want to know more, let me know, and i will dig out the hire shop and contact details. They had several different types of bikes, and probably about 30 bikes in total - I think, probably more. Gra,.
